"Thought some of you might care about this....after promoting the High Volume
Breeders business and getting behind PAWS, the AKC has now outdone itself. Today
at the Delegates meeting, the AKC announced that the Board has signed a contract
with Petland Discount stores to educate
store employees about the importance of AKC registration. The plan is that the
store will charge the AKC registration fee at the time of sale and register the
puppy on line. My understanding is that the Board voted 12 to 1 to enter into
this contract. Write, email, call your Board members, especially contact Dennis
Sprung...tell them to activate the termination clause in the
contract...that we, the constituents and customers of the AKC, do NOT want the
AKC
involved in business with a pet shop!"

Doesn't surprise me one bit . . . So glad the AKC doesn't have its mits on the Filas - and even happier that most of the Fila world is working to keep it that way. It's just a shame that so many other breeds have gotten sucked in over the last several years.

Not surprised at all...

but then what do you expect from an organization that in no way requires health checks of animals used for breeding, but will gladly register the puppies...as long as the parents were registered...

This doesnt surprise me either. It is a way for them to sucker more people in to buying puppies there. In my opinion petstores should not sell animals at all.I only support petstores that sell supplies and food.

another reason the AKC is a joke. They are no better than the puppy mills themselves. They are defenders of no breed, will allow the breed to become whatever it is will sell more puppies and create more registerable animals. There interest here is in nothing but more money. What a crock.

And people are so quick to put down CKC (Continental Kennel Club), not Canadian Kennel Club. I find it funny that most BYB and commercial breeders tend to register their dogs with the CKC, yet most puppy store puppies are registered AKC. Come on, can't convince me that those papers are legitimate and do nothing to advocate being able to identify a dog's lines. Seems to me like their should just be separate registries for each breed that are more regulated.

The same way they can whine "But we're just a registry, we have nothing to do with puppymills pumping out hundreds of dogs a year with AKC regstrations and BYB's selling unstable dogs."

They get money from registrations, that's about all they care about.
