Ok so two nights ago mav and nanook went on one of their nightly journeys. They came back with a face full of quills. We got all but two out of mav that night but nanook wouldn't let us get out more than five or so.

Today they were gone for 12 hours!! And they've just come home. Nanook's quills are gone?????!!!!!!?????!!!! and she's limping :( And she STINKS!!! I don't know what like. Fish poop I think.

So what happened to them!!!!

well I think the quills are just rubbed off. And I think it's her paw that's hurt. She won't let us look at it. And oddly enough one of her nipples is quite swollen... the puppy???

maybe someone else took the quills out. the old farmer down the road has done that twice for dogs that just happened by with quills. he's so good at at (sure wish I'd known that when Addie got zapped..it was a MAJOR vet bill) I even said to him last time, 'imagine what their owners think when they went home'! maybe there was a tussle with a groundhog and she got nipped. yeah....why do they LOVE to roll in the most awful smelling things?????? GAG I swear, Hammie loves mud...even that smell is gross!

Quills travel into the dog. I had a quill break off in my dogs tongue and it travelled into the tongue and caused swelling and soreness. The scary thing about quills is if they end up travelling up to the brain they can kill the dog. My Vet gave me a homeopathic remedy called silicia which made the quill work its way out of my dogs tongue. It also works for foxtails. I would be very worried if I missed a couple of quills, especially if they are in an area where they could in time work their way to the heart or brain.

Ok, so I gave nanook a 'bath' mostly to let her foot soak in some warm salt water. She put all her weight on it in the tub and seems fine today. still stinky though. mav's quills are out they are just sore. We poked at them for awhile and decided they were just red spots. So I put vitamin E on them and gave him a chicken neck :D So I still don't know what happened to them. :/
