Summer got 2/4 Qs today. No standard Qs (ARGH). We were one fault off both those runs (Wanna guess what tripped us up???) but the rest was good. We did get two games Qs so now she finished her TG3. Now we are working on her TMAG, which needs 10 games 3 Qs.

Eventually we will get out of intermediate... I hope.

P got a Q in Novice FAST yesterday. I decided to try for a Q and see if I could get up to Open FAST where there's 12 poles, so we went for it. His a-frame wasn't an appropriate contact but he got in the yellow. Weave poles were excellent, all six of them. He got straight into the weaves even though I had a crappy angle set up to send him in. Nice job baby dog. Send was no trouble at all, novice is novice.

JWW had two dropped bars (my fault) and he got his weaves. Took all three attempts but on the third attempt he got all 12 of them for me. Good boy. Standard was not good.

Georgie was super close to her first AXJ leg. Got the weaves and also did a nice backside jump for me even though we've never practiced that, then came off a jump. Not sure why, will have to watch the video. Still a really good run for the baby dog. Not so good in standard, didn't finish her weaves and didn't get ANY of her contacts I don't think, including the teeter.

Georgie got sick later that night. Then Payton woke me up at 5:30 sick in his crate. We decided to go ahead and go to the trial instead of just going straight home and just see how the dogs were feeling. P went first in FAST... completely broke his start line stay. I didn't even take a single step forward, he just ran away from me. I gave him a shot and tried to get him on the a-frame... he went over it, jumped off, then I stood there like Stuart told me waiting for him to come back and correct himself. He didn't and didn't and didn't... so I told him to lie down. No down. Told him again, lie down... he did a down and I said "thank you" to the judge and took him off the course.
I felt horrible for it. I was so mad at myself and upset and I felt disgusting inside. I know there are a lot of people who wouldn't have even let him play after breaking his stay. And I know there are lots of people who would have done the same thing I did, without even giving him a shot to correct himself at the contact. But I still felt horrible about it.

JWW for P was next. He held his stay this time, had a fairly nice run, dropped a bar (my fault again) and only needed two attempts at the weaves to get all 12.

I was still debating running Georgie, and then Payton got sick again. But he acted like he was fine after that and it appeared he had just completely emptied his stomach, and I asked his breeder and we both agreed I should run him and just see how he felt, and if he acted like he wasn't feeling good to pull him. Georgie wasn't really acting right so I was leaning toward not running her, plus she's not really stupid-resilient like P, so I kind of figured I wasn't going to run her. Time came for Standard and he was running pretty nicely for me, seemed quite happy and was fast as usual. Went into the weaves the first time around but popped them toward the end, did all 12 the second time. And then five obstacles from the end of the course he suddenly hit the breaks and got sick on the course. Guhhhhhh. So there would have been no running Georgie anyway because she was supposed to run two dogs after him anyway, and I was outside with Payton trying to take care of him.

So after that I just got everybody in the car and left, didn't even consider if I should run Georgie in excellent JWW because Payton just suddenly started being really really sick. He was shaking and drooling. He rode home out of his crate so we could watch him and I actually pulled over about 30 minutes from home because he threw up all over the backseat. Poor guy. We are home and he got a bath because he was dirty and stinky, and now he is just laying around looking pitiful. Georgie is laying in her crate feeling pitiful as well. On top of that one of Auggie's relatives (Pepper's uncle) also came to the show sneezing blood, and an Auggie half-bro was having some strange tummy issues of his own prompting an e-vet visit to check for bloat or a blockage. Not a good weekend for the fam overall. The place we went is actually a pressurized dome so my mom was wondering if maybe our dogs were getting decompression sickness of some kind? Because she said she started feeling sick this morning as well.

Not sure what to make of the end result of the weekend. Payton's weaves actually seemed to have improved over the course of the weekend, so we'll see. Also he has a FAST Q now so yay? It was nice to get a ribbon for the first time since May. Also that was a pretty fun run with him, so it was nice to have a super fun run with my dog. Up and down emotionally and I have lots of laundry to do with two sick dogs. Next trial in two weekends... we'll just have to see what happens. sigh.

Had a lesson today and Siri was on fire. So proud of this little girlie. No loss of focus issues (not sure whether it's due to the Get Focused! class that we are in or not, but I'll take it), and just...I freaking love this dog. She is so smart and drivey, and I just can't even deal with her she's so awesome!! <3 <3 <3

Also, my trainer wants a running A-frame.

And while we are on the subject, I adore my trainer so so very much. She is awesome. She has so much confidence in Siri and I, and that makes a world of difference since I usually feel like I have no idea what I'm doing! She's not the type of person to give undeserved praise (and can be very blunt and honest as well), but she has had so many nice things to say about Siri's attitude and drive, it makes me feel that much better about our goals.

/mushy feels.

That's awesome, PW!

I was just going to post something similar actually: Lo and I are just barely brushing the surface of basic fundamentals right now but he is so much fun I can hardly stand it.

Yay for our brilliant fun puppies! :D

Yay for awesome baby dogs!

My poor dog, I am going to have to work on being able to run and cue accurately LOL. Working on pushes today and totally confused her by telling her to go on instead of push, thank god for body language.

I'm coming to live in your yard thanks. Crossbone is ssoooooo awesome.
You can have the yard! I'm becoming so frustrated because Crossbone is so sensitive to smells/poop/etc and high steps through the yard or avoids certain areas, most of the time refuses to play agility or disc because he might step in something....EVEN after the yard has been cleaned of poop. My Aunt had her four labs over with my two for a couple days and the amount of s*** in the yard was unbelievable, so I don't blame the guy. But now, after it's all clean he still worries about the remnants that MIGHT be there. And if the grass is a little long or has a LITTLE dew on it...forget it.

Cross's dogwalk is awesome. I just love that little guy. It's so nice to see him going at speed in an area where he's (mostly) comfortable and confident. He looks wonderful.

Omg, I thought Mia was the only one with this issue!

Once she stepped in poop in my yard and she SCREAMED and SCREAMED bloody murder till I washed her off. Now she won't really play in the back yard but will in the side or front because she's afraid of the poop.

At trials she will also completely REFUSE to use the area where people let their dogs pee. Flat out will not set foot on it so I end up having to hike a long ways away to find un-tainted grass for her.

Yep! haha Sounds familiar!!!

In agility class (indoor on turf) he once stepped on a clump of wet fur, picked his leg up so high and started screaming and running to me. I thought he was going to die. Nope, just had to pluck the piece of fur from his foot and he was ready to go again.

Thanks, Sekah! It is sooo nice to see him do things full speed in the yard. I should really be taking more video. As you know, running full speed like a crazy thing is Crossbone's favorite thing in the world. Slow, slow process of transferring to other areas/venues. Someday, I hope!

Nope, Kimma does the same thing. It's actually cost us a Q as a dog peed in one location at an outdoor trial during the height ahead of ours and she I guess noticed and stopped dead during a turn to sniff it. When she got back in to things, she went WAY wide around it, therefore refusing a jump. Blah.

I really want a larger backyard so that I can have a designated training area. Right now she will only work where they generally don't potty, so I'm left with enough area for 6 weaves and a couple of jumps, if that.

Summer's inability to find the right side weaves is astounding. Especially considering she hits the left side well, strides well, and just generally... does well on the left. But the right?

Summer no understand. /Derrrrrrrrppppp/

We went back to beginning and just worked on entrances

You can do 12 closed weaves on the left, why can you not go through one 2x2 on the right!?

She kept targeting them. Or just round and round running past them.

My trainer 'There's just something about that right side that she doesn't understand...'

No one can figure it out. My dog is weird.

Why do you want her to take the wrong side entry? The left side is the correct entry so why would you ask her to enter the right? Or do you just mean when you're on the offside she can't find the entry?

I can never remember off/on side. When she's on my right she has no clue what to do.

I'm not even talking missing entrances. It's like her brain falls out and she has ZERO idea at all. She kept trying to target the weaves or wrap her front feet around them. lol

I'm working the exact way we got her left side done but it is not clicking. We spend countless sessions working on just the entrance on my right hand and she will get it once or twice then brain falls out and she's circling them, wrapping them, just not doing anything.

Flip sides and she rocks. It is so weird.

ETA; I should add Summer is kinda weird and neurotic. She is a very literal dog (if that makes sense). If one thing changes then she doesn't know what to do. We even had trouble channels because every time we'd change the spacing in between the poles, she'd forget what to do. If you trained her with a 6" gap, she'd get GREAT at 6" but if you moved to 5" she'd get confused. I ended up having to lure them with the weaves completely closed. But she got that on the left side in 3 five minute sessions. Once it clicked she got it completely and automatically started doing the weaves with speed and collecting stride well. After the initial luring she runs them very independently now. Still working on the more difficult left entrances and me speeding up and slowing down but it's coming well.

I think she's a savant or something... really good at select things and confused about everything else. She's a derp.

It sounds like she understands the entry only through her relation to your position. I can't remember -- does she have trouble working away from you? If so, I suspect the two issues are related. In conjunction with reshaping the off-side weaves, try to encorporate more distance work into your daily life. I swear by sending out to wrap around trees. I send forward, then out to another then back then out to another, etc. It really seems to build confidence.

That makes sense to me. She hates running away from me. We've been incorporating it into training more and more and getting her okay with pushing out. I had a run yesterday (actually twice) where she bailed the a-frame to jump on top of a tunnel to come be right next to me. It's a work in progress but definitely her weak point. She wants to run right next to me and as fast as I do. So basically in a lot of cases I run backsides of everything because that way I'm running fast and she doesn't get pokey.

She's weird.

I'll have to add tree wrapping to our walks though. She's gotten more confident with going out the more we practice and the more I stay as up and happy as I can and jackpot it. I swear her natural inclination though is that being told to go away from me is a punishment. She would get very worried about it. I also changed the word to push because I really think 'out' had a negative connotation for her.
