Whoop whoop, awesome! :)

Sassafras, you need to record the Squash agilities. It must be wicked cute. :p

Crazed, if we ever actually compete in six-twelve more months, I will come to springfield and we can have a dog agility party :)

Here's some Feist jumps and tunnel work from the past 2 days, we've been doing some agility training again now that it's cooler...Since she's a year old now, I've upped the jumps to 10-12" depending on what we're doing, and begin the slow process of raising them. I have to measure her, she's got a strong possibility of measuring into 18" (USDAA) in which case we can really take the raising slow from here. I've been thinking about whether I'm going to AKC register her, both 16" and 20" seem like reasonable heights for her. I need to buy a plank and get started on running contacts! :)

She looks bigger than Recon, how much does she weigh? He measured in at 16" in CPE and 20" in AKC. We jump 20" in CPE too.

Summer and I had a terrible practice this last week. Just completely not meshing together and that was sucky. She wasn't slow or anything, just not following my cues very well at all. I'm sure a lot was me, though. I wasn't feeling great

Looks like we're going to skip this next trial in Sept. :( I wanted to go but money is tight and my niece's birthday is that weekend too. I really don't want to miss her birthday party. I may be able to go on just Sunday.

It's allowed in all USDAA classes, and in AKC regular classes (I know in preferred you must jump their measured height).

I think it is partially allowed to accommodate dogs who jump in multiple venues (ie Meg is 22" Championship USDAA but 16" regular CPE and AKC), so you can always compete the same - or at least similar - height. Also dogs competing internationally are having to jump different heights.

I know some people who do it because they feel their dogs are more careful over the bigger height, or because the extra air time gives you more time to handle.

Weird.. I know dogs jump different heights in different venues, just never really put much thought into it until I read that. Still seems so odd to jump higher than what they measured into, even though I know they jump higher in another venue. I don't think you can do it in AAC? Or, at least, I've never seen anyone do it.

And the more careful over bigger jumps makes total sense.

I kind of like mine jumping under shoulder height, because I figure it is less wear and tear on them over the years. But I've learned the hard way that if I say "well I would NEVER"...do something like jump my dog higher than measured, I will wind up doing it with the next dog and eating my words!

I don't think it is super common here either, but I can think of 3 dogs off the top of my head that I know don't jump their measured height. I'd be surprised if it isn't allowed in AAC. The rules seem pretty similar to USDAA.

Huh, it looks like all AAC dogs (other than the tallest) have two jump heights they can choose from for the regular division. So Meg, at 17.58", could jump 22" or 26" regular, or 16" special, or 12" or 16" veterans.

Interesting.

No I don't think so.. they measure Briar at just over the cutoff for 22", so he's 26 regular but he jumps 22 specials. Then you can double drop for veterans or just single drop for veterans.

I think? Where's someone who actually knows the rules when you need them LOL!

You can up-jump in AAC. I'm not sure why anyone would though. AAC has some of the highest jump heights as it is. I run Kili as a 22" Special because there is no way I think it is good for her to jump 26" with her straight shoulders and crazy hind end angulation.

ETA: if they measure into the 26" jump height then you can't up-jump them... just because there's no higher category. But if your dog is a 22" Regular or smaller you can choose to jump one higher. So a dog that would typically be a 22" Regular could also be a 26" Regular if you wanted.

Yep!

I'm looking hard for agility classes but don't seem to come up with any that work with my schedule. At least not without driving a long distance, and I just can't do that after work. I'm still considering renting an agility ring weekly.

You can up jump in regulars, no problem. A lot of people who are vying for spots on the world teams do it for practise or for videoing purposes. Additionally some dogs jump better at higher heights for whatever reason.

How's the trial going?!?! I just saw a photo of a greyhound at the DAL trial on Darcy's page (the photographer) and i figured it MUST be you lol.

ETA: I guess i should talk about Iz in here. We're going to be trialling in the middle of sept at a club that i love! Hoping to get a few Qs, hopefully two jumpers Qs (need 3) and maybe a gamble Q (need 4) to get us going again. I haven't been to a regular trial since February and it was disastrous mostly because i was a basket case. New venue, new city, new people who i didn't know and I felt so alone so i was a mess and izzie picked up on that. Then Regionals which is regionals lol not really a trial per say but it's regionals. Iz did amazingly there despite the noah's ark flood impression the weather was doing. Placing third overall with some nice round placements. I forget if i talked about this already so bare with me. Anyways, I'm pleased with pug. She's starting to fit like an old shoe now, i barely have to train with her and she retains the training super well and our gamble skills are really clicking now (hello happy weaves with dirty dirty entries going away from me or coming off another obstacle towards me!) and i'm more consistent. So to wrap this up, i'm super excited. To play and to see all my agility pals from all over again! Woo!

Wow, he has pics up already? We were the only greyhound, so must be Kili. The trial was a small disaster and a huge learning experience. Yesterday she took off after the first jump and ran all over the course without me in Gamble. I figured I hadn't exercised her enough beforehand so I took her for a jog. I expected her to be better in Standard 1 but she was even worse... left the ring to investigate other people and was eliminated for it (she did have a few nice moments but overall it was ****). I contemplated calling it quits but then decided to take her for a hike. Came back for Standard 2 and she was EXHAUSTED. She ran clean but was 2.5 seconds over time.

This morning I took her to the dog park and she got a good run in. I thought we'd be good. Nope. Had some good moments in Standard 3, left the ring to check out my hiding spot for the jackpot but came right back so she didn't get eliminated. Finally clued in that she was stressed, not under exercised. No idea why since this was her home field and she's run a trial there already successfully. Only thing I could think of is I was stressed about doing well and getting her first Qs. I was making adjustments trying to prevent mistakes from her. So I decided to just forget everything and run her like I always run her. I made up my own short sequence in Steeplechase to try to get us back on track and then our last run was Jumpers and she was awesome. I just ran her like her. And we almost got the Q. Little mistake on my part resulted in a refusal. Which is fine because all I wanted was a good run. And I want that first Q at a high point, not at the end of a frustrating weekend.

Sorry for the novel!

Yay Feisty! Are you in eastern or western Mass? Just trying to figure out how likely it is that I will get to run into you at trials ;)
We're in eastern mass! I haven't yet check out the local agility trial schedule/scene.

She looks bigger than Recon, how much does she weigh? He measured in at 16" in CPE and 20" in AKC. We jump 20" in CPE too.
How tall is Recon? She's about 17", have to measure her again soon. Her sire is small for a male and has a tendency to have teensy girls.

As for jump heights, if we play AKC I might bump her up. 16" seems like it might be an awkward height for her, we'll see.

Well, I've entered Payton in FAST in a few upcoming trials to work just on his weaves and a-frame in the ring.

I guess I should probably read the rules or something so I don't do anything totally stupid and get excused from the ring.

ETA: Oh FFS. I just realized while reading the rules. He's in Novice FAST because of course he has to be... but it's novice... so only 6 weave poles.
Ughhhhhh I am actually going to have to put a novice FAST title on my dog to get to open so we can work on his twelve poles. I didn't plan on getting any Qs! Dang it.

Maybe it will be enough. Stuart told me if I could get his overall behavior under control, his contacts and weaves would improve. Maybe if I can get him to do six poles he'll be like OH DURR WEAVE POLES IN THE RING and he'll do twelve. Who knows.
Ughhhhhhhh.

I HATE FAST CLASS UGHHHHHHHH

LOL I have no idea. I could measure him. He actually needs to be measured at our next trial since he's over two now, anyway. :p

What trial? Maybe I'll enter. Are you going to enter the fall DAL trial? You should and you can stay with me and we can go together. I was very lonely at my trial this weekend. I know people but I don't KNOW people... you know? lol
