My dog Tanis and I have been doing agility for about three months although I can only go to class every second weekend because of work. He did well at the beginning and has advanced and knows all the obstacles pretty well, but he has started running away during sequences. I've been told he needs more discipline - can anyone give me exercises to do to improve both his concentration and his recall skills.

At the moment I am using a long line for recalls and working on very short sequences in my backyard, but its mostly at training that he plays up.

I may a game out of doing recalls. I got to local sports fields and school yards and then put my dog in a sit. I then move back as far as I dare and wait for the tension to mount, Then I say "Ready? Set? COME!" And take off running AWAY from my dog as he comes bounding toward me. It kicks him into prey drive and makes recalls fun. Even sitting is made more fun this way because it becomes part of the game. He is so attentive when we do this that his entire body stiffens up - like a live wire ready to explode.

Those are really cute pictures - and that IS a lot of energy. Tanis is doing a bit better on the recalls, but I need to take him to more varied areas to practice to get him even better. He seems to be enjoying the outings a lot.
