    Affenpinscher

Also known as: Monkey dog or Monkey Terrier
History: Affenpinschers, or dogs like them, have been known since the 1600's. They were breed specifically to be ratters, with no interest in confirmation or color. They were really breed in earnest when a man in Germany wanted a solution to the problem of mice in people's houses. Early breeders crossed them with Pugs, German Pinschers, and Silky Pinschers.
Temperament: They are alert, inquisitve dogs, they are generally quit except when they feel they are threatened. They are a breed that is fearless when cornered.
Grooming: You should brush the coat once or twice a week. The coat will require some clipping to make it look it's best.
Health: Heart murmurs, Legg Perthes, Luxating Patellas, and kidney problems. They mostly live 12-14 years.
Colors:Black, gray, silver, red, black and tan

These guys should ideally be Hand Stripped due to their wirey coat texture. Clipping will make it soft and sometimes discolour the coat. Other than hand stripping they should only be trimmed with scissors when being tidied up for the show ring.

If I was EVER going to have a little dog, this would be it.

I am really sold on these little guys.
