I have a 6 year old shih tzu whom has never been boarded. I also have a 5 month old maltese/shih tzu mix. The older dog does play with the pup at times and other times she snaps at her. She has never hurt her, just seems to get irrated with her. The older dog has started biting family members the last 2 years only if she doesnt get her way. I am boarding them next week for the first time. I asked that they be boarded together thinking that will help the older dog who has seperation anxiety. I believe the kennel they will be in is 8 feet by 10 feet. Has heated floors and a run etc. My question is this.....shall I let them be together in that kennel or shall I ask for them to be in seperate kennels side by side?? Do you think being confinded will make the older dog more aggressive toward the pup??? Any advice is appreciated!!! Thank you!

I might make sure the staff knows to watch out for your older dog and if it seems that she's starting to get too snappy with the younger one, to seperate them.

Also, please let the staff know that your older dog does bite, even if it's just occassionally. I hate nothing more than finding out the hard way a dog bites and then finding out later the owners knew all about it and weren't surprised.

Agree with Zoom. Staff should be informed to seperate at any sign of a problem. You'd be suprised at how differently they can behave when they're in an unfamiliar environment, exposed to other dogs. While it will probably be comforting fot the puppy not to be kenneled alone, it can be stressful for the adult and she may become even "snappier. Lots of bedding, lots of toys, no food left down or free feeding, (seperate to feed) should help.

^^^^ agree , I think I'd worry more about a fight than separation anxiety .
