My little chihuahua is so skinny. I know some chi's are naturally skinny, but you can see his rib bones. I hate taking him out b/c I dont want people to think I don't feed him! LOL The vet didn't seem concerned, but I would like to bulk him up just a little bit. He is 5 months old and weighes about 2 1/2 pounds. He is on Chicken soup puppy food right now and I do mix it with about a tablespoon of wet food , 3 times a day. Sometimes he eats it all, sometimes he doesn't, he tends to pick out the wet food and leave the dry but will come back for the dry later on. (I do also have a bowl of plain dry out but he doesn't really touch it) Should I start adding real meat to his food? maybe a homecooked diet would be better for him? Higher protien food? Anything else I can add to his food?

Deb, especially for a puppy it's a lot healtier to be lean rather than pudgy. You might find this article interesting:

I would also suggest feeding meals at a set time 3 times a day, leaving them out 15-20 minutes and then removing what's not eaten, rather than leaving food out and available all the time.

At this point I wouldn't change anything at all. Once your pup has reached his full growth potential, re-evaluate the situation and if you still find him too thin, think about changing your feeding routine. As it is, he will truly benefit in the long run from growing up as a lean puppy. :)

Scheduling meals made an enormous difference with both my Chihuahua's too Mordy. They were free fed for years based on poor advice from my Vet, both my wee girls were very skinny for all those years. Since switching them to a schedule, they've both filled out to be much more healthy...not overweight at all, but just not sickly skinny.
