OKay, I am going to give Izzy and Frodo a bath tonight, but I was hoping I could get some advice first. I always have trouble giving the corgis (who have water resistant coats) a bath because it seems like from the time I dump water on them to the time I get the shampoo on (5 seconds at most) their hair is already sort of dry. It feels like I am rubbing shampoo into dry hair (a really yucky feeling), and it takes twice as long b/c I am constantly re-wetting their fur.

Any tips or hints to make bathtime shorter and easier for both me and the dogs?

Thanks in advance,
Ren

Make sure and brush their hair backwards when you put the water on. That way the water gets underneath the gaurd hair. If you have a spray nozzle it makes it easier, but just make sure the brush the hair backwards when putting water on. That should help. :) Good luck :)

I have the same issues with my 2 Labs at bath time. I usually poor alot of water on them, not just one cup, and go against the fur on the back/legs/sides and front. Underneath isn't as bad. Make doubley sure you get all the soap out otherwise you'll have some itchy puppies. :)

I have a walk in shower with extended hose.... you really have to wet the dog down well. I dilute my shampoo and really soap for a good lather ...I have found if you use straight shampoo , you end up using more and don't get the lather you need . I usually use a quart jug with about a 1/2 cup of shampoo.

I have a walk in shower too with a detachable shower head with a really long hose. I had the same problem when I gave Hannah just a bath and didn't use the shower head but now no problems and she gets good and wet. I just lather on the shampoo and I also have a zoom groom that I go over her with the really work in the shampoo then I rinse really good with water and apply conditioner. Good luck with your pups!

I always thought that using the hose water was too cold? The water that comes out of my hose is pretty cold and I feel like Foster would be freezing. Am I wrong?

I have a lab I used to find that sponges and buckets of soapy water are very good for short haired dogs make sure you wet the coat before but once you squeeze out the sponge its on the dog and its very easy to shampoo them :)

I bathe mine at work with the HydroSurge so I'm getting a spray with the shampoo already mixed in, which makes it so much easier and faster. I've found I can't really bathe Sawyer well at home in the tub, because I have to pour the water over him with a bucket and it just runs off, plus I can't get his underside very well.

Agree ... just pouring water on doesn't work getting the undercoat wet. I still like to do it in the shower ..... otherwise I get too wet and cold !!!

I wash both my guys in the tub and IMO it's just fine.

It's nice luke warm water, and I yeah, I have to keep dumping pots of water on them. But it's not that bad.

Initially I get them wet right through. Soap them up, while lapping some water up with my hands which gets them even suddsier.

And use the pot to get all the soap out. I've got a squigee blade for horses that you use after bathing them that I use on Roxy and it gets all the excess soap and water out.
