As some of you know ( posted in General Chat) our female Golden (Brandi) had conventional surgery on her right leg and TPLO surgery on her left leg (both back legs) within two days of each other. After a month at the Vets kennel we finally got to bring her home. The leg with TPLO surgery seems to be doing real well. We have been taking her out about 4-5 times a day for potty breaks and she is acting like her leg with convetional surgery is bothering her. The vet thinks she is doing great. I was thinking she was, because I really don't know what to expect other than what he says. To me her leg is turned in too far. We are using a strap to help support her when she is walking, but she can only go about 10-15' at a time before she needs to sit down and get her second wind. She was / is overweight but has lost probably 10 lbs. since the operation. It has been 4 weeks now. Most of that time she was in a run in the kennel which had quite a bit of room but mostly she just layed on her bed. The girls did state that they took her out once or twice a day but I really have no way of knowing other than just taking their word for it. I have never had a dog that this has been done to, and don't know anyone else that has either. Am I expecting too much or should she be walking better than what she is? I do know that recouperating is going to take some time as I had a shoulder replaced two years ago. I am hoping that the little walks that we take when we go out will gain by a few feet each day. And I am hoping her leg does eventually straighten up as she gains strength in it. I guess what I am really asking is that someone that has had this done (conventional ACL surgery) give me something to feel positive about. I would hate to have to have her go thru another surgery but if that is what it takes then that is what we would have to do. Hopefully someone can tell me something to make me feel better today.
Thanks all,
Kevin
