Well I would think a spa is more like a bathtub........in that it is a preformed lining made out of anything from steel to hard vynil. This would help reinforce the walls, which will then have a wood frame that can be tiled for looks.

As for having an above ground pool made this way.............Possible, probably yes. Practical or cost effective.......NO. I am certain you could have in inground pool installed cheaper than the idea of what you are proposing.

Since an above ground pools wall is essentially sheet metal.. It would cease to be able to come apart as easily if you didn't want it if you found a way to tile and such..

Under our pool is a circle of pavers all leveled and a sand floor.

Cider swims in ours in a life jacket and often tethered to me with a leash. Keep her occupied playing fetch and then I lift her out.

we had an above ground pool for many years--recently took it down when we put an addition on the house last year. they are work--especially if the liner needs to be changed. Our lab--Traveler loved the pool--just try and keep her out! She literally would jump the four foot wall--so we decided she could use the ladder like the rest of us. We did have to change the liner twice--that was the price we paid for letting her in! All in all, we had lots of fun, and it was worth the time and money put into it--but we installed it, and the new liners ourselves!

Ah one thing you might consider doing... pools loose a huge amount of heat to the ground and a lesser extent through the walls.

When we installed the pool at my parents house we took out a bit more dirt then was required, but put in styrofoam insulation underneath the pool and around the sides, then put up a white picket fence to cover the sides so it still looked good.
We then built a solar heater(which was actually VERY simple... could tell anybody how to do it) and installed that.
The swimming season was extended by about a month in the fall and opened up and heated up 3-4 weeks earlier in the spring to... so probably ended up with close to 2 months more swim time... plus had free water heating :)

Well I havn't looked at this very closly but this company does tiled spas!
Those tiled spas cost ALOT of money...
Lets say you put in a 15 foot pool thats 4 feet deep (figured I go with this since someone already said they had one)
You have a rough surface area of 542 square feet...
Just the tile, costs anywhere from 11 to 22 dollars per square foot, and this is for the indoor stuff.
So lets split the difference.. we'll say your spending $16 per foot square. you have $8672.
That's only the tile cost...
Now of course you have to build a retaining wall out of brick to put all that tile onto.
So about the only common thing you're going to find online estimates for is a fireplace. The masonry work for a fireplace ranges from about 3300 to 4800...
So lets say to go around your pool would be the size of two fireplaces at $3300 per.
So theres 6600 more.
You're at 15,272 USD and you still don't have things like a pool pump or any of the other parts required... and if you're putting in a pool this nice, I'd want a heater for it to extend it's use season...

Now the same pool size (actually about 4 inches taller but for all intents and purposes...) can be bought at Sears for 2099 CAD plus tax(1942 and some change converted to USD, just to be consistent.).

So yeah I guess you could build your pool out of brick and tile the same way as a spa... but it's going to cost you at least 7 times more then a pool of the same size... you can buy a 27 foot pool for about 3000.
