A really awkward moment

So Cricket is still in heat and I've been really careful making sure no intact dogs get anywhere near her. I totally didn't think to watch her around Bamm since Bamm has been neutered for at least 4 years now. he has been around a few intact females in heat and never been interested before.

I was in my room and walked into the living room. Bamm had pulled Cricket's diaper off and was going at it with her. Meanwhile she just stood there totally not caring at all. I yelled at Bamm to leave her alone but I was too late and they were already tied.

Now they are separated moreso because I don't want him to hurt her since he keeps trying to do it again. Thank goodness he is neutered but that was super awkward. Has this happened to anyone else on here before?

Hasn't happened to us but my breeder warned me about it and I know of several late neutered dogs that enjoy such activities.

when I was really little we were pet sitting my uncles intact toy poodle and our little neuter mixed breed dog was very interesting. You think it was awkward for you, try being 7!

Yep.... Just because the boy is a unich doesn't mean he can't get the job done. Honestly probably the only reason he hadn't portrayed such behavior with other standing heat bitches was because you had him on a leash or there was something else to occupy his brain.

Crates are your friend.

Riley has tried humping Aura a few times recently, granted he was doing it backwards :rofl1: but still, she hasn't even had her first heat yet! We will have to be very careful when the time comes - even though he is neutered I, like you, do not want to see that happening!

Oh, lordy. How awkward. Thank goodness he's neutered! But yah, I have a feeling Jackson may be the same way with a female in heat, even though he's neutered. Well, maybe. He's never tried to hump another dog before or a person but he goes at it with my sisters stuffed teddy bear and the other day, I was like :yikes: when I saw his thing touching the dang ground! I was a little grossed out as well....

But yes, Auggie spent a lot of time when Pepper was in heat trying to hump her and/or trying to rip her panties off. After his second attempt at humping her and then peeing on her, they were either in separate rooms or I did crate & rotate. Bad bad bad Auggie. And he didn't even have his testicles that long. Auggie extends Bamm an invite to his exclusive Men's Club: No Testicles? No Problem!

When I was with my ex, he raised and bred rotties and pits, one of the rotties were in heat and his neutered rott was very interested too. He tried going at it with her but never succeeded.

Oh jeez, that would probably really freak me out. I guess I view Cameron and Duncan as siblings (although they are completely different rescues), and I know dogs don't view family/relatives the same way we do, but I would be really disturbed if I walked in on that.

And really, I would expect Cameron to have better taste.

To answer your question, I think I had a neutered male cat who continued to pursue females even after getting the snip.

Um yea, picked up Liz from the kennel a few years ago, TOTALLY thought she was out of heat, went to the dog park (middle of winter, two other dogs there we were familiar with and they ignored her completely...) to run for a bit, guy brings in a young neutered boxer... he and Liz got to playing, and humping, and got tied.

It was quite embarrassing.

I know 2 dogs that are completely obsessed with breeding females even though they've both been neutered since about 1.5 years old and they're 4-5 now. Any time there's an intact female around, they won't be distracted by anything, food, toys, other dogs, etc. They just want the female! It's really awkward for the owners outside at the park lol.

Argon somehow tied with a female Newfoundland (both fixed) at daycare. All this happened in the time it took me to race across the dog yard screaming "No, Argon, NOOOOOOOO!"
Since he's 22lbs and built like a whippet, and she's the biggest (and fattest) Newfie I've ever seen, it was kind of like watching a mosquito land on a horse. Every other staff member thought it was hilarious, and I could have died a thousand humiliated deaths.
