This is an interesting topic.. I think the way pitties act are totally depended on their breeder, socialization, training, and attention... not to mention background (Genes). My pitty isnt the besta round people/children or dogs, she does bark,. growl, and try to snap at other dogs.. It is quiet embarrassing..

there is a reason to her madness:

My Rednose pitty, Daisy, left her mother WAYY too young.. She was barely 5 weeks old... Mother and father were not around *Probably because theyy were guard dogs, or somthing*.. Both were purebred *not registered* rednose pitties...

Anyways, a friend had brought her home. Few weeks later he had to rehome her, due to his Ex Girlfriend having a complex, thinking Daisy was going to eat her Toy Poodle when she grew up.. (She was 8 weeks when she came to my boyfriend)..

My boyfriend had Daisy for a year w/ his ex.. then one day (after they broke up) he found out that his Ex had been locking Daisy in a kennel for around 12 hours a day!!! :yikes: ..

So right away my boyfriend called his Ex, saying he as going to take her..
By this time Daisy was VERY socially retarded.. She cant be around unfamilular dogs, off leash, because she WILL fight them.. Some people she acts weird around too... I think it is all because she wasnt socialised or spayed till I got her ....

I really wish she would act towards strangers like she does to her family...

I have had some downright rude & nasty comments. One that I will always remember was, "If I lived next door to you, I would poison all your dogs". I've also been told that my dogs ought to be shot, that I should be put in prison for owning these dogs, & asked what I am going to do when 1 of my dogs kills & eats my child. I have been told that i's a shame that I starve my dogs & that I shouldn't be giving my dogs steroids. I've been asked if I feed them gunpowder to make them mean. I've been warned by AC even when my dog was walking alongside me on a leash. I've had people call AC on me just for having the dogs & having 1 1/2 inch collars on them.

On the other hand, I have received some wonderful compliments in reference to the way they look & also on how well behaved & openly friendly they are. Most of my dogs' compliments come from the elderly folk who remember having & loving APBTs as they were growing up in the 1920's to 1950's. The next group that always compliments me on my dogs is the 5-10 yr old age group. I always get compliments on the dogs that do tricks (like high five, roll over, etc.) for kids. I get compliments on some of the dogs for their color.

No pittie here but I have a Dobe. People constantly give him looks and people come up with rediculous comments, like they turn on their owners because their brains grow to large (as I'm sure many Doberman owners have heard before), and stupid stuff like that. And Cheko is the sweetest dog in the world. Loves everyone but because of his breed's look and rep people naturally fear them.

Now on the other hand everyone loves Ryot, but he dont love everybody. In fact he doesnt like people. he tolerates them but doesnt care for them and prefers to be left alone. Everyone wants to pet Ryot and hug him and stuff and it gets so irritating. I guess its because his face is inviting, he has alot of red on his face in comparison to his brothers who are almost all black in the face giving them a more menacing looks. I can be out with my friend (who has one brother) and no one will even attempt to pet his dog while everyone is hovering over Ryot. Its so funny, when someone comes running over squeling at the sight of Ryot, he just looks up at me like "oh lord, here we go again".

What is the general tone in your area regarding pit bulls?
Two basic responses

1st Look of dread and fear, not willing to talk.

2nd Just the reverse of the 1st, they are all over Sal if they are braver (he comes on kinda strong...He kisses first and ask questions latter) or Athena if they are kinda shy (She is a respectful lady)

I have very few in betweens
