Hi!

I've posted a few threads about Luke, my little chihuahua/carin terrier, who has at least slight separation anxiety. I changed his name to Chico (Chi for short), because he's part Spanish, and he looks like a little man (Chico = boy in Spanish) with his dark facial markings!

Within the next year I may want to add a pup to the family -- hoping that the lonilness he feels will be cured when I am away. Is this at all a bad idea? I can only imagine that his attention would be drawn to his buddy as opposed to myself when I leave. I work overnights, and I will be attending school in fall. When I'm sleeping in the daytime, and head off to school in the evenings (it will likely be only twice a week for a few hours) I believe Chico would benefit much from another canine kind in the home (it isn't just for him, I'd LOVE to have another dog!). I also think he really misses the two dogs of the home I'd adopted him from -- probably his litter as well.

Surely I will need time to think about adding another pup into our home, but I really appreciate your guys' input!

On the one hand, it seems like you're away from your dog quite a bit. But on the other hand, if you think you spend enough quality time with your dog and if he likes sleeping with you....if that's enough togetherness for him, then he might really like having another dog with him while you're gone. Dogs definitely don't like being alone. I'd suggest an adult dog, not a puppy in your situation. Puppies require sooooooo much of our time to turn out right. There are lots of cute dogs in rescues/shelters. Good luck with what you decide.

separation anxiety, me too

Just a thought, ...maybe you want to increase the amount of time you spend with your pup by putting him in a purse and taking him to school, etc. my professors all loved having my puppy in class.

I have a small poodle that I carry in a big bag to almost anywhere I go - even out to eat. He loves it, and I love it too. My pup and I both have seperation anxiety and we both benefit from sharing time together with my fancy dog purses.

You are so lucky to have such a tiny dog, the purses they make now are so fancy that no one would know he is there.
Good luck with school -
