They look like such fun little dogs.

If I can ask of the 5 which is the most typey in terms of showing? I love them all but they definetely have different looks and I was wondering in the show ring which would be considered most correct.

Personally I'm a sucker for Nard it's the dark ear fringe and he just looks like so much fun =)

Rose makes such awesome photobombs :D

And the rest, ah, I've yet to have my coffee, so we'll stick with a giant D'AWWWWEH <3

Thanks! They are a lot of fun! :)

It probably really depends on who you ask! I will say Beau is the only show champion of them all. Truth be told all of them are pretty nice (imo) and I bet would've finished (assuming Mia's dentition had been normal and Rose had the temperament suited to it). Summer is the least typey but I've taken her to shows before and been told numerous times she could've finished.

There's a lot of variety in the breed (which I like) depending on the lines and my guys are all different lines. Beau, Summer, and Rose are primarily British/American and the UK's paps tend towards being stockier and hairier usually. Summer really takes after her grandma who was American and long and lanky like she is. Mia is almost entirely American. Bernard is 3/4 Japanese, and the other fourth is British/American. I like Mia's type the best but Nard's closer to what is winning big out there. The Swedish and the Japanese dogs tend to be a large portion of the specials these days.

If you asked the other papillon people on here, I'm sure they'd pick different favorites type-wise. There's lots of room for interpretation and variation in the standard.

A good resource is here though: Online Judging Seminar for the Papillon

LOL! LOVE ROSE'S PHOTOBOMBS!

I've never seen her look so goofy, great photos Laur.

I'm glad you guys like Rose. <3 She really is a bouncy, goofy girl. She just is so shy sometimes and it's taken her years to come out of her shell still. We're her third home (I don't know if everyone knows) and it's taken her a bit of coaxing to really come out of that shell. She went to her second home very happy go lucky and came back just traumatized, I still have no idea what happened. Probably never will.

But it's so nice to see her finally being okay with the camera. It's taken a long time to get her to not freeze up around the camera.

Heheh . . . remember when Nard was the Naughty One? :rofl1:
Omg, I had NO idea! :lol-sign:

It's hard to imagine, he's in many ways the easiest one now. He's so mellow and chill all the time. He's such a sweet boy. Still has selective hearing sometimes.

Yep, that is sure the truth. If I had to pick what my ideal papillon looks and acts like I know it's very different than what's winning at the ring right now. That's fine, the standard and the show ring has room for better or worse for us all. ^.^

P.S. I still want Mia's brother Monkey.

You and me both! He's such a pretty boy. Her reminds me of Mia a lot but only less snippy in the face. I just now saw pics of him at 4 years old and holy cow, did he get some fringe! I wonder if Mia will get near that much.

I could rant quite a bit about some of the recent trends I've seen. The biggest one for me are the people taking the phrase 'slightly longer than tall' to mean really short in the leg.

Yeah I've seen a fair number like that including one doing well this way nicknamed "the corgi". Sigh...

My main complaint right now in this direction is size in the bitch classes. My 6.5 lb girl is a giant among these squirrelly looking dogs. I'm fine with slightly smaller with the boys but how on earth are one of these girls able to whelp naturally? My other complaint right now is the poor rear angles hidden under all that coat. I swear some of these dogs run like poms.

I hear ya. Corgi? Really? That's just so wrong. I've seen many dogs lately winning that are just SHORT. They look fine till you look at their legs. I don't like this trend at all.

Our smallest here is Nard at 6.5 lbs. Mia looks tiny for some reason and people always assume she's the smallest but she's over 7 lbs now. I like them to be at least 6 lbs, preferably more.

I'm not too familiar with how poms are supposed to move but I have noticed quite a bit of hackney gaits. Is that what you're talking about.
