I have a question, that I have been trying to find an answer for. Why is it that my female dog Dixie kicks her back legs when done using the bathroom? She does this all the time. We also just recently got a new puppy and I noticed her doing it too, although not as gracefully as Dixie does it. If anyone can soothe my curiosity on this it would be greatly appreciated.

my shepherd does something like that...as if he's wiping his feet. he gets really into it sometimes, and boy does the dirt fly. (which usually means his paws are now muddy....so much for 'wiping' feet!) LOL

Spud does this every single time he tinkles. Precious and Roxy just drop and let it flow, then run, but Spud has to wait until he thinks it's covered up.

If you mean your female is kicking like a male dog usually does then yes the same applies, territory marking. Your dog’s feet secrete sweat that lubricates his/her pads to keep the friction of walking from drying them out, as well as providing a scent to his foot prints which other dogs can enjoy later on!

Yeah the girls don't do it everytime, but alot of the time they will. Dixie is obsessed with marking outside...she will even raise a leg sometimes just to get it marked in the right spot.

It is for terrirtory marking, scent notifying and a natural habit, grass when broken even though you may not be able to smell it gives off a very particular scent, this combined with the scent applied off the feet and obviously by the urination or defication basicly says "I have been here, this my spot, and this is my smell"
