I don't post that often on here, mostly just lurk and read, but I need some help!

First off, my boyfriend dropped my cell phone in the toilet this morning, and it just went kaput and it won't turn on. So, I have it outside sitting in the sun. I'm wondering if sitting out in the sun will dry out all of the water....but, will the phone work ever again? I'm tight on money and I know for a fact that it won't be covered under warranty and I don't really want to go have to buy a new phone, but I can't go without a phone because I don't have a house phone.

Anyone have any similar situations that turned out to be successful in getting their phone to work again?!

Also, we have no hot water. The pilot light is out on the hot water heater and my boyfriend has no clue how to get it re-lit and I don't know a thing about it. I don't know why the pilot light went out, but I know that it was horrible taking an ice cold shower this morning.

We have tried to get in touch with our landlord but his phone is going straight to voicemail. So, we've called a couple of our friends that are a little bit more experienced in the world of lighting pilot lights. Hopefully someone will help us figure it out!

I don't know what caused the pilot light to go out...there are no leaks. The tank is older then dirt so I don't know if a valve needs to be replaced or if it just needs to be relit? Any clues? Any and all help is greatly appreciated thanks so much!

I know our daughter has thrown my husband's phone in the dog water and it eventually worked again. She threw my brand new phone in the bathtub and we had to get a new one because it wouldn't work. I think it's a toss up really on the phone.

How old is the phone? If you've had it for awhile you can see about getting a credit towards a new phone. We got a $75 credit per phone when we got our new ones and just got cheap $150 phones so we only ended up paying $75 per phone and we managed to get that rolled into our next bill somehow.

I don't know much about hot water heaters but if it's old it may need something replaced. Our old house we rented had a REALLY old water heater that should have been replaced years before and we always had problems with it.

Do you have insurance on your phone? If you do, it covers anything. At least that's how it is with Sprint. YOu just have to pay the deductible.

Thanks for the replies!

I have great news about the phone....after sitting out in the sun for a couple of hours, it finally turned on and I checked and made sure everything worked. The screen still had a bit of condensation on it, but it's almost gone. So, Aaron is lucky he doesn't have to buy me a new phone!

Trust me, he got yelled at because at first he tried to play it off like he didn't drop it in the toilet and I was like "Why is it all wet then?" He felt really bad, and thankfully he doesn't have to buy me a new phone :)

Grammy-I'll definetly let him know what you said about peeing and talking at the same time :)

As for the water heater...well, we haven't done much yet, I think I'll go down into the basement and look at it. I don't know, I'm scared of my basement, it's really creepy and full of spiders and spider webs. Blech. We're supposed to be having a friend of ours over to take a look at it, I wish he would hurry up and get here. The cold shower this morning was torture.

Thanks again, everyone!

Oh wow, you're lucky that your phone is working again!

I went on a water ride at Islands of Adventure with my phone in my pocket a few years back... the phone was soaked, and even when it dried back out I couldn't get it to turn on again.
