Thanks for the comments, Buckshot, Aussie Red, Renee & BP and....ummm...thanks for the....errr....reactions....yeah! :D

I been so wanting to find one of those! Great shots!
You should have heard the scream from the kid who found it! :lol-sign: I was kind of suprised at how big it was - but it didn't seem to mind me getting up close and personal (about 3 or 4 inches away).

They're very common here. The webs are incredibly beautiful in the mornings, hung with dewdrops. All the "scribblings" between the lines of the web are the reason they're known as writing spiders in this region. Think Charlotte's Web. :)

I have had so many of those webs wrapped around my face walking through Louisianna in the Army. You gotta wonder where the spider is. Never been bitten by one though. I am glad to know the name. I would also like to get pics of cathead spiders

Great shots!

Wow that reminds me of my younger days. One of those made a web in our kitchen window when I was 15. (on the outside of course) We left it there all summer. It was a neat spider, my brother would catch bugs and throw them into the web, then run in the house and stand on a stool to watch the spider wrap the hapless insect up. Nothing is as heartless as 5 year old kid feeding 'his ' spider :D They are not that common here. They are a very pretty spider.
