How long can dogs hold their bladder? A question which has baffled me ever since i bought Boni, my beagle. She pees before she sleeps, yet in the morning i find that she had peed in her crate during the night and not only that but also poo. Is it just Boni or are every other dogs like her? or does she have a bladder problem?

bladder control

Depending on the age of the dog depends widely on how long they can hold it.
Puppies generally have no control of there bladders, they need to be trained but it sounds like boni is trained just having accidents. Dogs generally can hold it much longer than humans up to 10-12 hours although it is not healthy for them nor for a human. A dog is house broken when it NO LONGER messes in the house . Now general rules do apply such as if the dog is left for very long periods of time, the dog is sick or has diarrhea. Is this something that has recently starte happening? Also generally dogs will not mess where they sleep, this is there home. take note if your dog is drinking more water than usual, urinating or going more than usual or is lethargic these are signs of possibly serious health conditions such as urinary track infections, parvo, bladder infections. I would watch her closely, for any changes, check her stool for blood or worms, if she has diarrhea alot, or if the stool is really soft. also note the color of her urine. Also when are you feeding? If she is eating to close to bed time this could also be why she cant hold it through the night.
