Permission to cross post. **I would just like to say that Christi is a VERY close friend of mine. She turned her grief over her Mom's death into something VERY positive. I participated last year, as did several of us, that couldn't attend the actual event, but we did do a "ceremonial" walk at the show we were attending.**
**********************************************************
Greetings everyone-

The Jeanenne Thompson Foundation, Inc. 2nd Annual 5K "Walk With the Dogs" will be held in Nashville, IL on June 2, 2007.

Most of you participated either by actually coming to the Walk in our hometown (less than an hour away from St. Louis) last year or by being a "Web Walker"!!!! Our 1st Annual event was a HUGE success raising $7000 for PanCAN.org and $700 for the Washington County Sheriff's Department K9 Fund for the Malinois they had recently purchased from Sweden.

Some of you asked to be sent information on the Walk this year! For those of you who don't know, I formed a Foundation to honor my mom's (who was my best friend) life and her valiant fight against pancreatic cancer. It was a wonderful way for me to deal with my grief and to do something good. Pancreatic Cancer has a mortality rate of only 1% but is the least funded in research of all cancers. Michael Landon (the actor) died of Pancreatic Cancer and his Foundation grants a $250,000 grant each year to PanCAN.org. I hope to heighten the awareness of this hideous disease that took my mom from us way, way to early and to help with the funding of research. I hope to help make strides in this area of cancer like Susan Komen's sister did years ago for breast cancer.

Last year we had 121 Nashville Walkers (with their 50 dogs) and on the same day, we had 136 "Web Walkers" (for those who want to participate but can't attend) from 18 states and Australia walking in honor of mom that day!!!! This year we hope to raise $10,000 for PanCAN.org and have 175 Walkers in Nashville (our little hometown only has a population of 3,000) and have 250 "Web Walkers" participating!

For those of you who would like to participate as a "Web Walker", you will receive your T-shirt and your dog bandana in time so that on June 2, you can take your dog for a walk in your hometown in honor of Mom! This year online registration is available!!! You can go to www.jthompsonwalkwiththedogs.com and enter online!!! The entry fee is only $20 for all walkers (kids are free with an adult walking and their T's are only $10). "Web Walkers" please send $5 so that your T-shirt can be shipped to you!

I will have a display in my booth with entry forms as well, that for any of you who will be seeing me at a show you can fill out your entry form there and give it to me!

Thank you to all of you who join me in my fight to help eradicate this disease and to celebrate my mom's life with dogs! I know she never imagined that I would take on a venture like this, but I know she would be so proud of me! I miss her so much and I want to always honor her strength in tackling this disease that took her so fast!

And a BIG thank you to Pope School in Pope, MS who will be doing the Walk as their Community Project! We are thrilled that they chose to participate this way and help us raise awareness and money for funding to help fight Pancreatic Cancer. And thank you to various kennel clubs who continue to support us as being sponsors of the Walk! It is greatly appreciated!

Many PugHugs to all of you for helping!

Christi
