Hi,
We got our puppy spayed yesterday. The vet says all went well; she was completely zonked out yesterday and just slept. Today she is back to her normal self. The vet told us to keep her quiet for the next week at least. Any suggestions on how to do this? We have her in a crate, but she still gets aggravated and wants to get out.

Also, they told us to put the E-collar on her if she begins to lick the incision site. This morning I saw her begin to lick the site, so I put the collar on her and put her back in the crate. She looks so pitiful! She couldn't figure out how to lay down with the collar on. I had to leave for work (I'm a teacher and I couldn't take today off) and I'm just so worried about her. Anyone with more experience have some reassuring words?

Thanks in advance,
Elektra's mom

Aw, poor girl. It's best to keep her in the crate and give her something to do, such as chew toys, that she can just lie there and chew on. She'll be OK in a day or 2 and will be wanting to run around and be crazy so it will be hard not to let her but you need to keep her crated unless she is on leash, so she won't run and jump. Goodluck!

You will have to keep her in a crate for a few days and, yeah, it's no fun to watch your dog be miserable :( About the cone...there is nothing worse than those white plastic cones! I mean they definately do the job but they scare the be-jesus out of some dogs, also drinking and eating while wearing them is difficult. They are loud when they hit things, scaring the dog AND you. I worked at a pet resort where we had these really cute soft discs that replaced those hard plastic cones. Here is a site that shows something similar. Might wanna check your local pet store to see if they have any. They are soft, dogs can still do their daily business in them and they are cute! http://www.bonafido.com/page6.html

King was a total basket case until I got rid of the white cone in the picture, and got a see through one. I was kind of worried, as I've never seen him so miserable before or since.
