Why would someone perpetrate a hoax like this? What do they get out of it? Confused here

IDK dr............but it's a TERRIBLE hoax to play when this type of thing REALLY happens all the time

I can't imagine one of the lab rescues won't take them, everyone always wants puppies and I don't think many go through rescues.

Edit: I just read about the hoax . . . hrm . . . my guess would be to get people to contact them . . . then there are all sorts of possibilities.
