Some of those dogs are dyed. The panda dog and also the tan spotted dog are both dyed. Apparently dying dogs to look like pandas, tigers, etc is a thing.
I thought some of those coats looked a little too "perfect". There is a bichon named Cujo that boards where I work and his people dyed him to look like a panda. Took a while to grow out. He's a cute little fellow but darned if he isn't the loudest little creature.
I remember the "Panda Shepherd" being a thing on a forum I used to frequent. I always wondered, they claim a piebald mutation, but most of them look pretty Irish spotted...perhaps Border Collie in the mix? From what I recall they only noted on geneticist that confirmed the dogs were indeed purebred....
I am such a sucker for those chimera labs *sighs* AND that vitiligo looking ACD. Dies.

The panda mutation is actually a separate mutation from the piebald gene. I don't have the link anymore but they've done genetic studies on those dogs. They are some sort of new spontaneous mutation.
Can a dog have the somatic mutation without it being "all over?" We have a dog at work (Yellow Lab) that just has what looks like a teardrop shape of black near one of his eyes. It makes him look really unique.
