Anybody see this movie? After seeing the article linked below, I want to see it even more now.

How can Iran be insulted by the truth? The Persians (who were more than just Iranian ancestors, there was Indian, Afghan, Arab and other ethnic ancestory in the Persian Army of the day) got their asses handed to them at Thermopylae. But for the record, the 300 Spartans were supported by about 7000 other Greeks, mainly Athenians.

Hubby and I are planning on seeing it. The Uber Immortal, played by Robert Maillet, went to school with my husband so we're kind of excited on seeing his part even though he doesn't have a speaking role in the movie. And we're really looking forward to seeing the movie, looks excellent.

The Uber Immortal

I sent Steve, hubby, this picture and I told him that Robert looks scary in that picture. Hubby's response was "He looks scary without it too" lol

Justin and I went to see this movie. The cinematography was awesome. But the movie...not soo good. DO NOT take your children to this movie. There is STRONG sexual content. Way more than was needed and it is stupid and does not add anything to the movie. There was a 10 year old boy sitting right next to us in the theater. Had I been his parent I would have walked out the first half hour. I have never been so tempted in my life to walk out of a movie theater as I was that night. Though I thought maybe it is just this once, then again there was another even worse scene and then another scene. And it's not just the pictures, it's the sounds too.

Not too mention, that according to my fiance, it doesnt follow the story right anyway. But as I said the cinematography was awesome, but had I known about the other parts I never would have paid money to see it. I would rather watch it where I could fast forward through the other parts that were not necessary.

You may want to correct your fiance on this one because it follows the story upon which the film is based, almost exactly.
300 is NOT based on the battle of thermopoly, but is rather a big screen adaptation of the graphic novel 300 written by Frank Miller(Sin City) which he wrote about thermopoly, also not designed to be historically accurate.
The movie is not designed in any way shape or form to be an accurate retelling.
Frank Miller had creative input into the film from the word go as with Sin City.

I've heard some fantastic things about this one and am definately planning on going.

This movie kicked our ass at the movie theater I work at.

I saw it. It's an excellent movie - I was afraid they were going to elongate it more than necessary but they ended it right where I would have. Also, most people don't know that highlighted bit.

Hehe my housemates just got back all pumped up and yelling Sparta. It's definetely an adrenaline rush. The visuals are amazing it turned battle scenes and blood into something gorgeous. In terms of plot and story Sin City was better but I have nothing bad to say about a lot of ripped oiled men in little clothing =)

Zoe08 honestly what is a "needed" sex scene. This was a movie based on visuals not plot and it was filled with "gratuitous violence" so why not sex as well. The parents of the ten year old boy had to know about the cut off arms and heads and excess of blood from the previews. I doubt that after knowingly taking their son to see so much violence they were overly offended by two sets of breast.

The story it's based on IS the Battle of Thermopylae...hell the ENTIRE movie WAS the Battle of Thermopylae.

You should ask her fiance what he thinks of the graphic novel.

Frank Miller was inspired by the original Battle of Thermopylae after viewing the 1962 film "The 300 Spartans" as a child. His perception of the 'hero' concept changed greatly after seeing the Spartans make their sacrifice.
The movie never claims to be historically correct. It is based somewhat loosely on Frank Miller's 1998 comic book mini-series. Changes from history were made by Miller and Snyder so as to appeal to a wider audience and create a more exciting and visually stunning action movie, rather than a typical historical epic.
And I would ask accept it's not entirely relevant to how much people enjoy the movie or how accurate it is.

It's a movie, not a documentary. As long as it doesn't claim to be a history lesson, I personally don't care about accuracy. I just want to be entertained, that's it.

I haven't seen 300 yet, but I'm dying to see it. I absolutely love movies with outstanding epic battle sequences. I've probably watched the Lord of the Rings trilogy about a dozen times. :D

That leads me to a minor rant: what is it with critics always sneering about these movies that are "all special effects and battles, with no substance." Why in the heck is that a bad thing? Isn't the point of a movie to entertain? I'm a big action movie junkie. I'd watch X-Men 3 over "Little Miss Sunshine" any day.

LOL was it just me or did anyone else find that movie (little miss sunshine) to be NOT funny at all. My general rule is that if the critics hate it... i will love it. If the critics say it's the best movie ever... I will hate it. they must get a different movie to watch then they show to us regular folk LOL Because Little Miss Sunshine was supposed to be HILARIOUS. when did the funny parts start? We ended up shutting it off because it was just stupid lol

I just saw this tonight and it's definately a great flick. I can't imagine many males who simply wouldn't like this movie. It was awesome.

There's not near as much sexual content as Zoe makes it out to be. There's about a 30 second scene, and another scene later on where you know what's happening but never see anything. The scene lasts about 10 seconds (longer if you include the talking they did before hand). There's a lot of nudity but only two sex scenes. And most of the nudity is compacted into one scene. I think there's three scenes with nudity, maybe four. And that's counting the one sex scene where you see stuff.

Also the movie has some sly bits of humor here and there, and the ending is spectacular. It really made the movie for me.

I headbutted a guy in the lobby afterwards. ;)

Two things bugged me about the movie.

One was their excessive use of the slow mo thing, but even that was pretty cool. It wasn't like Torque where it was just like 'what the hell?...why?' but still. I don't know, I guess I just have a thing about over dramatization.

****SPOILERS*****

Two, I really wish the queen hadn't given in to the guy that ends up blackmailing her. It would've made it much greater for her to stab him just for TALKING bad about her. When she gives up to him then it's about him betraying her and yada yada yada. If she'd refused and he'd still talked bad about her, at which point she shanked him, then it would've been much more bad ass. 'Don't talk **** about me!'

Any how, lots of blood, gore, violence. There were three kids in the theatre with their mom. The mom let them stay through the sex scenes. Which makes sense IMO because if they're gonna see that much blood and violence anyways why vilify the human body? But that's not to say she was a good parent.

There's a bit. But about 9.5/10 of the movie is pure action and people yelling "FOR SPARTA!!"

Oh and the movie kind of starts out slow too. That annoyed me.

Just got back from seeing it...

A...W...E...S...O...M...E!!!!!

More or less the history was accurate as it could be. Of course there was a great deal of fantasy elements added (odd creatures, hunch back dude, etc...) But the premise of how and more importantly WHY the Greeks fought at Thermopylae is true.

I liked how Xerxes reacted when he was cut at the end. I wonder how many people understood the significance of that?

The best part of the movie for me? The great way they showed that no matter what, freedom is not free and worth fighting for.

I give it a 9 on a 10 point scale. :)

I have to admit I also really enjoyed this movie.

The nudity or sexual content was not nearly as bad as it was made out to be. It was just boobs.... heck we saw that on the superbowl half time show :D LOL

Now I cannot say I am a history buff but I did recently watch a documentary on Thermopylae on the history channel just recently. It really helped me not ask so many questions during the movie hahahaha.

Sure there are some parts that are not totally accurate... and I can definately see where this movie is based more on a novel than the TRUE events.... but I think the most important aspects were correct.

The guy that played Leonidas (Gerard Butler) did a wonderful job IMO.

AND just on a side note... lol being a woman and all.... I would not have complained about being the casting director for the Spartans ;) haha

This was the best movie I have ever seen.

A few reviews said the movie lacked a plot; the plot was reinforced throughout the movie, so I am not sure what they were talking about. IMO the sexual content added to the movie, just going more in depth on their love for one another, basically showing physically their connection. It wasn't just hollywood addition; you've really got to look beyond things like that.

Exactly.... I have seen far worse and FAR more sex scenes in movies. LOL I thought they did a good job at keeping it rather tasteful. Man there are movies out there that show full frontal nudity LOL this one just showed some boobs... like I said before.... we saw that on the superbowl lol.

I have come to the conclusion that if the critics say it sucks... it means the movie is really good lol
