need suggestions on a few things, we have a almost 3 month old pom poo pup, buddy and hes still having trouble being 100% consistent with the whole puppy pad mat thing. He's usually great during the day when were watching him but at night when hes in his own room , he wont really go . or forgets , and we'll let him out and he'll go to pee or poop on the carpet :S we know hes still young but is there any methods to making him want to go to his mat everytime?? Also the biting, how can we discipline him to not bite peoples hands and feet? we've tried freezing his rope bone so he has somthing cold to chew on to sooth his gums but is there anything else??
help is greatly apprecaited :)

:hail:
he really is adorable though .. :p

He looks very cute! :)

Ok first off... buy a crate! It's great for nights because if you keep it in your room then you'll hear when he needs to go out and potty. The price is definately worth it in the long run, especially with such a small dog I doubt it would cost you much at all. Because his still young he'll get used to it quick smart.

And with the biting? Make it known that his not allowed to bite. Get anyone that comes into contact with him to say "Ah Ah" or yelp like a puppy whenever he bites. When he stops tell him his a good boy and give him a toy to chew on. If he doesn't listen to you then stop play all togethor. Stand up and turn your back to him and don't pay him any attention untill he settles down.

Good luck with your new puppy, it sure is a blast! And it goes way to quickly.

P.S Does he have a name? :p

em&ollie gave great advice. A crate is definitely needed at night, and even for during the day when you're not home, or if you're too busy to watch him.

At three months he is still very young, and will not remember to go back to his area to potty. He may not consistantly remember until he's closer to six months. There are pretty specific times when puppies need to "go", and it helps you to train him if you know these.

1) When he wakes up.
2) After he eats.
3) After he has a good drink.
4) After (or even sometimes during) play.

The last one is important. Often people say "he was playing so well then just all of a sudden stopped and pooped". Yes, this does happen. Why? Well, it's just like people - exercise gets "things" moving. :D

Often too, they just all of a sudden stop and pee with no warning. He will be playing, then just pee. That is because he is still a baby, and he's busy playing then "OH, gotta pee - NOW".

When he's not actively playing, if you see him quickly walking around, sometimes in circles, sniffing the ground, he likely needs to pee. If you see him walking around sniffing, with his legs sort of stiff, he likely needs to poo. Watching for these behaviors and taking him to his area will help speed up the potty training process. Part of potty training the dog is the dog training us :)

Pom,

I replied to the post that was in my thread "Potty Training Woes". Hopefully it's good advice, but I'm still new at this myself...
