GIG HARBOR, Wash. -- A woman in Washington state was left badly injured after two pit bull terriers broke into her home through a pet door and attacked her in her bed, police in Pierce County said. She managed to grab a gun and tried to shoot the dogs, enabling her to get away and lock herself in her car. align=

From there, she called 911.

The woman was hospitalized in serious condition.

Police said the pit bulls also killed a neighbor's Jack Russell terrier, which apparently heard the noises coming from the home and went inside.

Police used pepper spray and fought the dogs to get them under control.

The dogs are expected to be destroyed.
I agree that the dogs should be pts, but I think the owners of the dogs should suffer some consequences as well...

This happened in my area. I made a thread about it after seeing it on the news. I think the dogs chased the JRT inside the house and the woman got in between the dog fight.

The owners, if they can find them, should face criminal charges IMO.

The dogs should be put to sleep-but I blame the owners, not the dogs.

It's a sad situation no matter how you look at it.

With how things are right now, I fear for a BSL in our area. :(

At least I am of voting age now!!!

*Edit* She said the Jack Russel comes through the dog door every morning. Why is their owners letting this dog run free in TACOMA?? Then she say's the dogs first went after the dogs, not her. Then she says "I was trying to protect the neighbors dog...." and then she got the gun and that's when the dogs went for her.

To me, sounds like the dogs wanted the other dogs, but she got in the middle of it. And like we all know when dogs are in fighting mode getting in the middle is dangerous no matter what the breed! *sigh*

I saw on CNN they had a clip of an interview with the woman who was attacked, but the computer I'm on won't play video clips. Did anyone watch it? What did she say?

And this is exactly why I think dog aggression should be bred out of breeds created for dog fighting. Dog fighting is against the law, so why should the aggression still be accepted? Its a recipe for disaster whether it be for another dog being attacked or a human trying to get in between it.

Gig Harbor is kind of rural, isn't it?

I've seen both dogs. Neither have been aggressive to anyone that I've seen or heard from the others who have seen them!

These dogs shouldn't have been allowed to roam free, have had multiple warnings about, and just shouldn't have been with the owners.

Like I said, neither dog where aggressive at all when I met them, which was today.

Obviously they are dog aggressive though ;)

This is why I blocked off the dog door in the rental we used to live in. I would like to know why all these dogs are running loose at night, and why nobody seems to have a fence or anything. When you let dogs run as they please, they make their own rules.

This seems to be one of the biggest problem with people around here. You don't know how many dogs I've seen running loose, how many stories I've heard about people just letting dogs run loose and not really caring where they go. It's a pain. Especially when the animal control won't come in time unless you mention "pit bull" "attacking PEOPLE" "biting PEOPLE" or a large dog seriously injuring another dog. They don't usually respond in time (from my experience) if it's a small dog terrorizing anyone.

In my town we havent had ANY kind of attcks, hmm. But people do let their dogs run lose. I mean this one guy lets his dog out ALL day and I REALY want his dog. So the first time we called thhe dog officer he said"if the dog is not claimed and we dont find the owners number we put it up for adoption. Now my hole family likes him. So the owner comes and yells at my mom for calling he said" I let my dog out all the time" so know my mom wont call and if we call alot about it then we can keep it, but sorry of the point. But if people let their dogs run free they WILL get hurt.
