I got asked by the Great Lakes Weim Rescue to do my first home inspection! :D So exciting! I got a good questionaire to fill out from GLWR so that's a good start. Has anyone been involved with doing a home inspection that could give me some good pointers?

Sweet! Is there a specific breed you are looking to adopt?

So far the best advice I got was to make them feel at ease. Make it not seem like a home inspection persay. I'm interested to see the house but more interested in how the dog is going to be taken care of and if they are ready for the responsibility. I'm sure they are just as nervous as I am right now. I know I was when I had the home inspection for Zoe, but we passed with flying colors! Yea!

Well I would say a fenced yard is probably important to them, that and a reasonably clean home, obvious responsibility to your existing dogs, and I would imagine your knowledge of Weims will help a LOT. Other than that, I do hope they don't go into your underwear drawer. Just kidding. I do that a lot.

You bet, an Australian Shepherd.

The rep went to great lengths to let me know that it's not so much an inspection as it is a counseling visit. She hopes to advise us on what things we might change in our home to help make the adoption a success. I'm OK with that.

Update...

So today was the day for the home inspection. I took Angel with me and headed out to the prospective new weimie owner. When I got there Angel was so excited and barking! LOL! Well the guy answered the door and said OH I tried to get ahold of you and let you know that you didn't need to come out. (If he called he didn't leave an message... ) He said that they didn't want to wait to adopt a weim (one week ) and they thought it was too much money so instead they found a breeder and bought a dog for $600 instead of the adoption fee of $350???!!! So since I was there I thought... would you like me to come in anyway and take a look at him. I asked if they had any questions while angel played with the puppy. I ended up being there for about an hour talking weim and answering any question they could think of. From training to food. I told them they could call me or email me at any time no matter how old the dog got if they needed help. :D I'm hoping they do. This is their first dog and first puppy they've ever owned together, and also the largest dog he's ever owned or raised.

So there it is in a nut shell! My first home inspection! LOL!

Being in their position, I can relate. But a puppy would not be a good fit for us. I'm impressed that you stuck to your job (convictions) and spent time with them anyway. Nice job. :)
