Three held in Palmview home invasion : News : KGBT 4

11 year old man defends his home after being shot in the hip.

Three men are being held for a Palmview home invasion where an 11-year-old boy was shot defending his mother.

Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office deputies told Action 4 News that it happened off Minnesota Road and 8 Mile Line between Palmview and Mission around 12:30 a.m. Friday.

The homeowner said she and her 11-year-old son were in bed when she heard banging coming from the front door.

She got up to check and she saw two Hispanic males men wearing masks and armed with handguns walking towards her.

She quickly closed the bedroom door but one of the men allegedly tried to force it open.

The masked man kept telling her to open the door and she would not open the door.

The woman told deputies that the home invaders shot through the door and hit her son on the left hip area.

Her son had a 22 cal. Rifle and shot back at the alleged robbers.

The woman waited, opened the door, saw that the suspects were gone and called 911.

Deputies found blood all over the floor and noted that the front door had been knocked down.

Paramedics took the woman's 11-year-old son to the McAllen Medical Center where he’s listed in stable condition.

But deputies told Action 4 News that a man with a gunshot wound to his neck ended up at the same hospital.

Investigators said nothing was taken from the home and that the wounded suspect was taken to a hospital in San Antonio for further treatment. He remains under guard.

Criminal charges are expected to be filed against him, if he survives.

Deputies said Border Patrol agents detained two Mexican nationals who were found in the area.

The two men are being questioned about the home invasion.

U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials told Action 4 News that they have filed immigration detainers against the two men.

Nicely done, young man. I truly hope this doesn't screw him up for life, though.

I dated a girl who shot her brother to death in self-defense. We had broken up by the time that happened, but for a few years after that, she was a train wreck. I understand she's doing OK, now, though.

Imagine that, a firearm in the hands of responsible people saves lives of would be victims. I know many folks on here would have prefered that they dial 911 but I'm glad they took the initiative to defend themselves first.

Bravo for the young man, I am very glad he did what he had to do.

As a mother, I question why SHE wasn't the one shooting though. I'm telling you robbers would have a far better chance of killing me and taking everything I own if my kids weren't home/in danger.

I highly doubt this will affect him like that eddie.......it's a way different area to harm a KNOWN person, (even in self defense) especially a 'supposed' loved one :( How awful for her.

I, too, question why SHE wasn't defending her child, but good on whoever taught him to use a firearm properly at an early age and doubly for him, having the poise to do so, especially under the circumstances.

First, bravo for the young man doing what needed to be done.

As for having the poise... I've noticed in my days that people just react to such situations differently. I've read before it sometimes has a lot to do with physiological issues. For better or worse i've always been able to stay 'cool' in such situations. But AFTER the situation has passed, I shake like a leaf. Something to do with how my body produces / uses adrenaline. I say this because when soldiers "win" medals in combat, it is generally because they get away (or not in some cases) with doing something excessively stupid. LOL I sure did once.

Drmom, any input to that?

You've just described me as well Puck, to a T.

Every BIG emergency situation I've been in, I'VE been the one to stay 'cool and in control'........even as a teen with both my parents present, I took control, barked out orders when my grandmother was dying at our home. I sent my mother to call it in, my brother to the end of the road (boonies) to watch for police, started my dad on chest compressions while I gave mouth to mouth. When the paramedics arrived and took over, my legs gave out trying to stand (due to all the shaking) and I collapsed where I stood. I could name several other situations just like that one.........I thought I was just weird or something, LOL, glad to know I'm not alone!
