10 yr old neighbor given MORPHINE!!!

My 10 year old neighbor (girl) was staying at her grandma's house last night. She got a headache and asked her aunts (15 and 17) for some ibuprofen or aspirin. Her aunts went next door to their neighbors house and asked the 20 yr old woman (who is mentally disabled and has the capacity of a 7 yr old) for something for a headache. This 20 yr old gave morphine pills to a 10 yr old for a headache!!! The kids slept for about 16 hours, has a headache, dialated pupils, fever, upset stomach, throwing up and is shaking uncontrollably.
There is more to the story, but from what I've gathered some people are going to be arrested and others asked to move out.
The bill morphine pill (per the dr's) is the strongest one they prescribe. The only thing they can do is give her something to settle her stomach and let her "wait it out". :(
If it were my family that had been involved (and KNEW what she'd been given, yet didn't tell me) I would have them all arrested and not let them see my kids unsupervised. But that's just me.

She should be o.k. but is still hospitalized as of 3pm.

Strange...........Poor kid :(
I would wonder why a 20 year old woman with the mental age of a 7 year old would have been prescribed (or able to get hold of) Morphine??
I mean if i had a child that age with those issues, i sure wouldn't be leaving meds ANY meds in reach..........this is a child in an adults body after all :(

that was the aunts fault.
Sorry, but i don't agree.....The aunts are no more than children themselves and the Grandmother should have been supervising any Medication given to that child IMO :)

The aunts are indeed children and should be disciplined in an appropriate manner!!!! It's fortunate the kid didn't lapse into a coma secondary to apnea!!!!

The neighbor, even with limited mental capacity, knew it was morphine. The grandmother was there and was told earlier today (before she came home and told her mom). The second she told her mother that she'd been given a blue pill, by her aunt and that it made her sick...her mom went nuts. She ran down to grandmas, asked what it was, came back to their house, had the girl put on some looser clothing while she called out from work, and went to the hospital. I watched her youngest son until her sister showed up (grandma took her sweet time coming to the house so the sister was called). Tony went to pick up her husband from work and bring him to the hospital. Everyone is pretty ticked off. Cops have been notified, people are going to be arrested and apparently the woman (20 yr old) touched her inappropriately as well.:(

Yes, at least one of the aunt's knew what it was. The oldest I believe. The grandmother was home, but I believe they got it while at this other woman's apt. (her mother is hospitalized and she's apparently taking care of herself even though she is mentally disabled) I like to think the dr prescribed it under the pretense that her mother would oversee the medications. However, with mom in the hospital the M.D. daughter has free reign of the house.
I believe the aunts and the grandmother are responsible as well as the M.D. neighbor that gave it to them and tried to solicit sex from the 10 yr old.
Needless to say, at least ONE of the aunt's (the one that gave it to her after getting it from the neighbor) is NOT allowed near the kids again. I believe someone is being evicted for giving drugs to a minor and soliciting sex. Someone is being arrestted, but I'm unsure as to who or how many.

The 20 yr old disabled girl is the one that was feeling on the 10 yr olds chest, buttocks and legs!

Needless to say at least 2 or 3 are going to be arrested. The aunts are not allowed near any of the kids any more and the kids are not allowed to stay at grandmas house. Only grandma can babysit...none of the rest.

But if the mentally disabled girl truly has the capacity of a 7 year old than she shouldn't be held accountable for any of that. If she truly has the mindset of a 7 year old then it is not her fault no matter how inappropriate it was. If she is seven in her mind then who's to say she knew better. I don't know any seven year olds that "know better"

I really hope she doesn't get any blame if how you describe her is true.

As for the Aunt's I don't know about the 15 year old but I know at 17 I knew better than to take any pill I saw or was given. The 15 year old should have known better too but I don't know the courts would see that.

I hope they can get the MD neighbour a social worker or something to help her while her mother is in the hospital.

I hope the little girl is ok.

If this is really going to court, you don't want to be talking about it ANYWHERE.

It's not going to court. The police are already looking for the oldest aunt involved cause she's the one that gave it to her. Another girl is the one that actually got them from the disabled woman and gave them to the aunt. The aunt KNEW what the pill was, still gave it to her neice and didn't tell anyone once she got sick. The whole family showed up at the hospital...not worried about the girl, but worried about who was going to jail. The aunts are not allowed near the girl or her home. Only grandma is allowed around her.
The girl that gave the pills to the aunt and the aunt are going to jail (possibly juvenile hall).
The disabled girl is going to be talked to but is either going into an institution or jail. Any 7 year old should know better than to "touch" someone inappropriately. I know 4 and 5 year olds that knew better than to rub on and touch someone in 'private' places.
One of the aunts that doesn't live on the property is banned from coming back because she was involved as well.

*On another note: When they got home last night me and Tony bought 4 pizzas and a gallon of ice cream and we all had a pizza party (glad that she was back and not dead. Doc said if she hadn't have thrown up 20 minutes after being given the pill she'd be dead.) The pizza and ice cream was the first thing she'd kept down since the night before.
We had the cops come over cause the downstairs neighbors were drinking outside, publicly intoxicated and smoking marijuana. No one was arrested but they were given tickets and the van and apartment was searched. They admitted to smoking and some 'roaches' were found. The guy had his 3 kids in the van and was told NOT to drive anywhere til today. He left 1 hour after the cops left. I hope the kids are o.k. after having a drunk/high daddy driving them home. :(

DFS (family services) is coming to the 10 yr olds home sometime today. They've already said to keep her away from the aunts and the other neighbor involved.
DFS is also going to be called on the grandmother (since the aunts are all under 18). So they'll be investigated.
I don't know what they're going to do about the disabled woman.

Well I don't know of any seven year olds that go to jail because they touched someone inappropriately. Not to mention that she is disabled, just because she has the mind of a 7 year old does not mean she understands what that means. If they can prove that she knew what she was doing then fine she should be in an institution but jail will be the worst place for her. Could you imagine being mentally disabled and being put in prison for reasons you don't understand. Sad :( I just can't imagine putting a mentally handicapped person in jail with hardened criminals.

The Aunts definately need to go somewhere. i didn't know they didn't tell anyone what happened after she got sick. Also I must have missed where the grandma was all this time. Poor little girl :( AND where were her Aunts while she was being "touched" by the handicapped neighbour. If someone else got them the pill why did they even go over to the neighbours house. There are quite a few things those teens could find themselves in hot water for.
