I understand your frustration at having a non-housebroken dog... I got Winnie in June and we are still working on the housebreaking thing (she's now 15 months old). The ONLY thing that worked for us was becoming incredibly aware of where she is the house. Although she isn't tethered to me (anymore), she still needs to be in my sight at all times. I just don't trust her enough. My dad was dogsitting for me the other day, and after almost two months of no accidents, she snuck away from him and pooped in a bedroom (within minutes of going outside for potty). For some reason she just likes going inside. Someday I know she'll be realiable enough to let her wander, but for now I need to know where she is and what she's doing at all times. And if I can't keep an eye on her, she goes in her crate.

Also, if she doesn't go potty outside when I take her out, she goes right into her crate when we get back inside. I never ever assume that she didn't go because she just didn't have to... hopefully someday I will be able to assume that. :-/ If she does go potty when we go outside, she get a reward in the form of a walk, play, or free time inside. Half an hour of free time, then she's back under observation.

Just like going potty outside has to be a habit for her, knowing where she is all the time has to be a habit for me. I just figure someday she'll understand... but for now, this way causes less stress for her and me.

Good luck!
