    Rhoedesian Ridgebacks??

In general I have found them to be good dogs. I have only worked a few that had real aggression issues. As stated they are not as difficult to control as most scent hounds. I think the description of them being more cur than hound is accurate. I don’t mean cur in a bad way. Their development...

Help Us Agree on a Breed!!

Most of the Pointers that I’ve had have been quite active. Out of the suggestions I think the golden retriever is good for you and I kind of like collies too. An Aussie or Brittany may also work. I suggest looking at the dog’s individual temperament and personality. I have seen very calm...

    Working harness: leather or biothane?

I am kind of old fashion so I like leather. However, I am very close to being vegetarian so I’m slowly getting away from using leather. I don’t care for how the hardware looks on the Amazon harness. I like brass hardware on my training equipment

    Dumb big red dog

I have found some dogs can’t have really yummy chews when together and others can only when supervised. But over the years I have found it’s just easier to not give anything that may cause a problem.

Breeds you would rather not own?

I come from a little different back background than many folks and I usually look for an individual dog to do a certain type of job. However, I do want to start a rescue and there will be certain breeds I will not take. The main reason I plan on not taking certain dogs is because the government...

Does your dog know YOUR name?

My Labrador retriever knew my name but not my super brilliant German Shepherd. I think it had more to do with the girlfriends I had than the dogs. The girlfriend I had when I had the lab spent more time with me and used my name more. She also was a dog trainer and I think that made a difference.

    Thoughts on Young Dog Owners

This is something I never really thought about. When I was 19 I was managing a security dog company and when I was just a little older I was the head dog trainer at two kennels. I did have some trouble with clients not taking me seriously, but I never had anyone think the dog I had wasn’t...

    The problem with anti-chaining legislation

The anti tethering law trend may have started with good intentions but there are legitimate reasons for tethering a dog or keeping it on a chain. As mentioned not having a fence is one of them. It’s better for society in general if the dog is tethered than roaming loose. From older research I...

    Dog Shoes?

stylish dog boots The first pair of dog shoes sure are some stylish dog boots. I do like the Muck Boots and they have some that are a little bit better fit for male dog handlers. I just can't see myself wearing the purple boots
