    Litter training small dog?

Thanks everyone for the overwhelmingly positive response. I still haven't decided what to do. I plan to research more and then decide. I'll let you know what I decide and how it goes. Thanks again.

    Litter training small dog?

Mafia Princess: confusion is one concern I have. However, I have found several testimonials from people who have done it successfully and they suggest that it isn't as big a problem as you might imagine. Just as with potty training a puppy, it is about diligence and praising at appropriate...

    Litter training small dog?

I have been considering litter training my mini dachshund. There are a variety of reasons: 1. We live in Minneapolis Minnesota but are from Portland Oregon (this will be our second winter). Obviously, the weather is different. He has a very hard time in the snow (and HATES walking in it)...

    Hurt paw, need suggestions.

The front leg seems much better but now he is seriously limping on one of his back legs. I'm confused so we are going to contact a vet friend of ours and ask her to take a look at him. Thanks for the response.

    Hurt paw, need suggestions.

I left before the dog got up this morning (he likes to sleep in). And when I got home, he was limping. My boyfriend took him out when they got up and he said he was fine. It is the right front paw and I looked it over and there is no visible sign of injury. It does seem as if he doesn't...

    My Mom Just May Foster!

It's dachshund. It's awesome that you are fostering. I was thinking about it but my schedule is a little too busy these days. My boyfriend works from home, maybe I can convince him. Wish me luck.

    Pet Dachshund vs. Working Dachshund

Mordy, thanks for this post. I was unaware of the differences but now that I see them side by side, I realize that Tibbetts does look different then many Dachshunds we see when walking. He looks exactly like the german smooth, not the AKC smooth. He has the longer legs, stronger face, etc...

My dog is constantly licking and biting his paws

A friend of mine had a dog who did this. He did it when he was bored or stressed. He wore an elizabeth collar for awhile and now only does it occasionally (they give him more exercise).

    Feeding a senior

I am not sure about boxers specifically but my older dog eats California Natural: Chicken and Rice. From what I have read about the subject, unless a health problem dictates a special diet, any GOOD food is fine. I hope someone else can be more helpful.

Veggies/fruits that can be fed raw?

I feed ALL sorts of veggies raw. It is great as a filler (if you want your dog to eat less chow). I feed my older dog lots of veggies because I don't want him to gain too much weight because he is a dachshund and they have back problems if they get to heavy, plus, he loves them...

    corn cobs....

I totally understand the concern. However, I feed my dachshund raw corn cobs (he only eats the kernels and then I take the cob away). Just like with raw bones, etc, dogs must be supervised. No reason not to let your dog enjoy some corn if you are able to supervise.

    Dachshunds

Thanks for the lesson Mordy. He is our first dachshund so I was just repeating what the lady at the rescue told us. I suppose he is a dappled black and tan if I read that site correctly.

    raw potatos good for dogs

Warning for all: just because someone claims to be an expert, doesn't mean they are. I went to that site and viewed that list and found that most of the things were not backed up by ANY sources (for instance, the "dogs can't digest vegetables"). Also, it says on the top that some of the...

need help with Sammys new diet..

You could just call up the vet and ask what an appropriate amount would be. A restricted diet is like medicine: if you had serving issues with a medication, wouldn't you call up your doctor? It's their job, they don't mind. Tell them you are confused and they should be more then happy to help.

    Training Treats

Probably this won't work for every dog, but with Tibbetts I just cut up carrots. He loves them and gets excited by just seeing the color orange now. If your dog will eat vegetables, try those. You can give a lot because they aren't high in calories. Hope you can find something you can both...
