To be on the safe side, I do the same as I did with my kids when they were toddlers. We go when we wake up, before we go to bed, after eating, and I have her go potty whenever I'm about to leave the house. She holds her bladder all night.

It sounds like it would be very confusing to the dog and make adjustment take longer. HOWEVER. Look at the greater good. If glamourizing the process of adopting a dog from a shelter find more dogs homes and saves more dog's lives, than the show is worth it.
