My funds are limited and I can only find this title for $39.95 here though it has a page on amazon the availability date is March 2010.

Thanks for the input. I live in Jamaica Plain, a part of Boston. Though I'm in the city, my dog is outside a lot. I think I understand the risk of ticks more than heartworm. what are the seasonal/geographical risks of heartworm?

I'm curious to know how many people use these products? Dousing a dog in pesticides for its life seems dangerous...on the other hand, dealing with heart worm or lyme disease also seems scary. My roommate and I are both leaning towards not using this stuff...my roommy is from serbia and knows...
