    Breed suggestions

Look into French Mastiffs. Not too big, great with kids, not too high energy and great watchdogs that do not eat mailmen. I recently adopted one, and I have to say they are really nice. I am hugely biased though as I am a huge Molosser dog fan :)

    Traveler Brag

Awesome - you seem to have a really bright and motivated dog there! With that kind of talent, don't let him go bored, or he will channel all that intelligence into mischief :)

    Adopted Dog - Half trained

Wow - clicker training is cool! I actually have to keep myself from trying to do too much of it in a day. Thanks for the tip!

The "why my dog is the best dog in the world today" thread

My Daisy is the best because she will let a 4-year old girl put a leash on her, stands patiently by while the girl mounts her tricycle, and then lets her walk her up and down the yard for ages - never once letting her fall off the bike. Also, because she only ever runs away when I leave to go...

    I'm in LOVE

If you have the opportunity, go for it. I have a Saint Bernard myself, and I have to say that it is the best **** dog I have ever owned. Affectionate, loyal, dependable, playful (although also a bit mischievous at time) and extremely good with even very small children. I would recommend it to...

    A bit of help needed

Does this only happen at home? Collies are really farmyard dogs and shepherds - they are supposed to alert the yard to a stranger coming into the territory before they greet them. He is just doing his job :) If it is a problem, I have seen people who simply practice with a few friends, and...

    Adopted Dog - Half trained

"Lots of patience and good yummy treats" I was hoping someone would say that :) yummy treats I can do, and patience I apparently won't need. This mornings walk was a huge improvement already. I walk her off leash in a fenced-off field, and she is already coming without ignoring me first, and...

    Adopted Dog - Half trained

Hi All I could use a few pointers with my new family member, Molly. She is a 3 year old french mastiff. She is half-trained - poor recall, poor leash manners, sit and down when you actually push her down but not otherwise. She is a good girl, a little bit stubborn but very affectionate. I...

    Hello!

Hi Guys I am new here, happened across while looking for some pointers in dog training. I have 2 dogs, one aging Saint Bernard (7 years old and still going strong!) called Daisy and a 3 year old French Mastiff called Molly (recently adopted to keep her out of the pound) Nice to meet you all!
