I just thought of a neighborhood nearby that is pretty quiet. I'll start walking him there if at all possible. Good thinking!
This makes me feel more at ease. It's always tough wondering if the decisions you make now will positively or negatively affect a pup's personality later in life...
Thanks, i'll try working on this.
One thing that has really gotten in the way of my training is my neighbors. Every time I go for walks, someone has their dog either off leash (where they run straight up to Boomer and he goes nutts with excitement) or I turn a corner where someone says...
Update
Today, I found a neighbor willing to help with Booms. She has a male bichon frise that is very laid back, which is awesome!
Every time we walked towards the other dog, if he started whining or pulling, id go "ah ah!" and turn the opposite direction. We'd walk further.. then start...
I'll look into buying the interceptor for next months dose. It upsets me that veterinarians give advice that isnt always good advice. I've seen it happen too many times.
When Boomer was younger my vet told us to take the heart worm preventative called Worm Shield (made with ivermectin). I told her that I had read aussies were not supposed to take it. She told me "Oh any reaction to that is very rare, and is only in very large doses. Your dog will be fine"...
Haha so true! I have a few bottles in the cabinet to help out. Oh and he is very vocal, always making strange grunts and whails when we talk to him, pet etc.
I'm definately going to enroll him in an obedience class sometime soon. I really think that will be the best for him. That may be...
Are you serious? What's the point of continuing this? It was said, done, over with. I stated my feelings, then they responded. I got on with it and continued. Why bring that up yet again? It's ridiculous.
That wasn't being helpful. I understand you won't respond to things that make...
Thanks for that explanation. That's a great article. I'll work on increasing his threshold as we train. "He needs to know that there is a time and a place to play" is right on the dot as far as what im expecting of him. I love for him to play with other dogs, but we can't do it every single time!
Comon now
Alright guys, way to welcome a brand new member. I just signed up. I noticed after I posted this that it was squished together. I had posted that on three different sites so it was a copy/paste. I posted on three because I wanted to get a variety training ideas. Who really knows...
Thank you for the info. I'll definately work on that. We moved states not long ago so making new friends with dogs will be my next priority, ha.
I'm wanting Boomer to do well with frisbee and even perform in front of others. So getting his focus switched over to me and the game at hand...
I have an 8 month old male aussie. He's extremely smart and laid back around the house. He knows sit, down, shake, high five, roll over, play dead, stay, and is very obedient in our home. He sleeps more than we do if he could! I take him on walks every day and have been practicing frisbee...
