just wanted to say...that having babies was the bliss of my life. as a responsible parent, I am also proud to say I raised them to love and respect the earth. I was a 'hippy' of the 70's.......and still believe alot of what I felt in my youth. if everyone passed it along, there wouldn't be a need to stop reproducing...or feel like it is something horrible for the planet. or maybe since I didn't read pages...I don't get the argument.

Under a Rock in the USA!
really? I would think newborns would be among the MOST selfish....

I mean *everything* they do is IN their own interest.

Its called survival.

I don't see them waiting a few hours to eat so their parents can FINALLY get some much needed sleep, :lol-sign:
HOW in the world can a human newborn be selfish ?? They depend on the choices of the mother who caries them to term, then bares them for their survival. If that mother is selfish the baby will suffer during or post birth. This lady proves that. Were not talking about wolves here.

I've heard that said before, and I agree. When a baby cries, they don't care if you're tired, hungry, sick, sleeping, etc. They just know what they want, and they want it NOW. Definately selfish.

Do you remember the time I knew a Girl From Mars?
I don't know if you knew that.
Oh we'd stay up late playing cards,
Henri Winterman Cigars.
Though she never told me her name,
I still love you, Girl From Mars.

I have great confidence in the ingenuity of the human race, but I'm also not fool enough to think that popping out a kid and then telling it "There ya go! Fix all the stuff I screwed up for you!" is the way to go. If anything, people should want to try harder to do less damage to the world that they are putting their children in. Now that would be the most unselfish thing to do. Yeah, the first lady in the article is a little extreme, but the second couple seemed to be very rational to me. They said that if they decided to have children later on they would adopt. In fact, if I ever decide to have kids that's what I would want to do. That is a completely unselfish gesture to me. No, having a child isn't evil, obviously, or else we would die out as a species. But it's definitely something that should require a lot of thought and consideration. I think it's funny how people are jumping from ONE article about people choosing to be sterilized to legislation forcing people to do it. Pretty huge jump if you ask me. And I'm pretty sure that there are plenty of liberals who would still like to have children. In fact, I bet a large majority of them do. So, sorry melissa, you aren't going to get rid of them that easily!

No wonder so many people are depressed and angry.
Hey, ya know what else might be contributing to people's depression? Hateful comments like this that some people can't seem to keep to themselves!!

I agree. I am raising my kiddos to be good people. They make thier own choices in life after that, and have their own priorities. Just like you and I did and do.

Environmentalism borders on religion for many...and that's fine. But I am no more okay with indoctrinating a kid to green than I am to God...they can choose themselves later on when they do their own research on the matter at hand.

"I" did not screw up anything for them..any more than my own mother did for me, nor her mother for her. What a sad, negative way to grow up..if some do grow up this way.

Yeah, but most people come right out and apologize when they say something they regret, not just claim that they are human.

I sooo agree with you. I would have said this myself. :) altho, I felt it more important to give my kids the awareness of environmental issues before religion. religion.....they can study and choose. but loving the planet is just 'natural' to me. not pushing 'green' down anyone's throat...just taught them respect for where they live. and that goes beyond the home. no, 'we' did not screw up anything for them. but it doesn't hurt to promote a more 'planet friendly' lifestyle.

Hence the edit button, and hence the words "I am sorry"...

I guess I saw an apology where you didn't. being human...is a legit apology in itself. none of us are perfect here. we have all said things we have regretted later. things that came out way more harsh than we intended. things typed before thinking...things 'said' when our mood was 'off'. you can keep the fuel going, of course. or you can see that he gave an apology. it's anyone's choice. I've said many things I honestly didn't mean to sound so harsh. guess it's a matter of how picky you feel today to keep harping on it.
