That would depend on what day it was and what audience they're talking to, lol . . .

Funny thing, in business, I've been ripped off or had more scams attempted on me by fundamental Christians than by everyone else combined. Now, when someone comes in and tells me they're from a church, or starts with the good Christian rhetoric I'm instantly on guard. I know what's coming next. It never fails.

How do I know the cop or the breast cancer groups I send money to arent scams?

This question was asked in my Senior Government class after being asked to read a long article on the Mormon presidential candidate. We had a good discussion in class, and though I got a few good ideas from others in the class, I'd love to hear opinions here too.

So, what do you think? Should it play a role? Or doesn't it matter at all?

EDA: and furthermore, do you find it acceptable that he seems to be running and hiding from his religious background, not willing to share or talk about it?
Why should religion matter? Are you going to judge who's the better candidate by their religious beliefs or by the issues they are presented with? Personally, I want to know that the issues are taken care of - gay marriage, abortion, war, soldiers, children and families of the U.S. (before foreigners), financial matters, etc. I don't care if you're Mormon, Catholic, Baptist, whatever...as long as you take care of (or try to take care of) the country.

If Mormonism is true, then the Christian faith is a complete lie. That's how I see it. It's no different than Islam, just a Christian version and a lot more peaceful.

The Bible is "superseded" by the writings of Smith in the Book of Mormon, the Pearl of Great Price, and the Doctrine and Covenants.

...it's based on nothing but the imagination of Smith, similiar to Mohammed's Revelation of Islam and to me both false theology. Smith was inspired by Jesus and Muhammed was inspired by Gabriel. Rebellion to the true word of God. That's just how I see it.

I have Mormans visit me a few times a year, I invite them in they talk, I talk, and they always ask me to pray for them before they leave. My house is packed with plants and Jesus Christ in every direction. They stare at my walls while the other Morman reads from the book. They do not carry a Bible. I reference from my Bible. :D

Mitt Romney is the first member of Mormon's who has had the opportunity to help them achieve their goal of mainstream acceptance while holding the most powerful office in the world. Similiar to that of Obama and Islam. Sooooo, we have Obama backed by the Muhammed clan, and Romney backed by the Smith clan. Neither one will win if you care to know what I think.

....deception to true faith is on the rise. And if Obama or Romney win the elections, you can bet your bottom dollar America will be known as the American Terrorist Cult throughout the whole world. LOL Kinda silly huh beings we're just terrorists now to the east.

.... also Mormans teach they were here before the Natives and that they created us in some place in the sky and colored us because we were outcasts or not excepted, then they came down to us so we could be redeemed. but maybe I read it wrong.

You cant tell what is in these peoples hearts until they get where they dont need your votes anymore. They sorta claim religion to appeal to the religious, but dont make too big a deal over it because they dont want to lose the non religious votes. They are all salesmen trying to sell themselves to us. When is the last time a republican or democrat did what their voters wanted them to do? The majority seems to want smaller government, what candidate ever did that? The only truth you can depend on during political campaigns is when a candidate says "The other guy is a scoundrel". The rest of it is all lies. If you want a good Christian candidate, look for the one who isnt dressed very well or doesnt have a large home, because they have given most of their money to others less fortunate. If none of them fit that discription, guess what...youre being lied to.

I guess what I'm missing is what that has to do with running the country.

My answer would be this: I'd not vote for someone based on their religion or lack thereof, but I would NOT vote for an overzealous person that seems to have a strong religious agenda.

I think it has alot to do with it, personally. JMO.

Our Constitution was founded on certain "principles" ... the U.S. Constitution does not extend to foreign citizens under certain circumstances nor to un Constitutionalize our beliefs as stated in the Declaration, for what certain people imply in addition to literal meaning in respect to the Constitution, the desire by U.S. public officials could violate its principles as I see it.

But that's just me.

Oh yes.... what religion a candidate is, is VERY important.

Oh yes. Because... I want to be governed by someone who believes we shouldn't work on a sunday (and rightly so), who says I should cover my face in public (well it is minging), and believes that homosexuals should be stoned (quite right).

After all, we live in a modern society, and we should uphold these traditions. In a world with a kajillion beliefs and religions, of course I want someone with ONE set of principles leading us.....

haha... religion and politics, more than I can handle in one thread me thinks.

Gosh, ok here I go again ....

Freedom of religion; freedom of the press, and freedom of person under the protection of the habeas corpus, and trial by juries impartially selected. These principles form the bright constellation which has gone before us, and guided our steps through an age of revolution and reformation. The wisdom of our sages and the blood of our heroes have been devoted to their attainment. They should be the creed of our political faith and principles, the text of civil instruction, the touchstone by which we try the services of those we trust; and should we wander from them in moments of error or alarm, let us hasten to retrace our steps and to regain the road which alone leads to peace, liberty, and safety.
habeas corpus ????????? Hmmmmm where did that go 2001 ?

In questions of power, then, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution
:yikes: :hail:

Men by their constitutions are naturally divided into two parties: (1) Those who fear and distrust the people, and wish to draw all powers from them into the hands of the higher classes. (2) Those who identify themselves with the people, have confidence in them, cherish and consider them as the most honest and safe, although not the most wise depository of the public interests. In every country these two parties exist; and in every one where they are free to think, speak, and write, they will declare themselves.
