I was talking to one of my friends at tennis practice this morning about possibly fostering greyhounds. Another of the girls on my team (who was obviously eavesdropping, lol) said that she thought they 'looked scary'. At first I thought she was thinking of a different breed but she described one for me and it was definitally a grey. I guess maybe it's just because I've been around them for years that I find them one of the most non-intimidating of all the breeds?

So, based solely on looks do you find greyhounds look intimidating? :)

they terrify me. i am surprised no one has tried to outlaw them.

i mean those long noses and long legs and OMG!! some peeps put clothes on them. the tails look like they could hurt if they wag it against ya. and always wanting to curl up in your lap.

;)

I Love greyhounds! I will deff. own one in the future! I never knew them as intimidating - quite frankly my mother thinks they're "wimpy looking dogs"

I can see why someone would think that. For starters they're so tall, i.e., big. Then they have that so very long muzzle, which when open could completely envelop your head.

Then those very long legs are so tightly wrapped with skin the arteries, tendons and muscles just jump off the bone.

And that deep chest and tucked tummy,... just looks like barely contained power. Until you look at the thighs. Bulging and rippling, definately a powerful animal.

Yeah, I could see that.

Beautiful yes. Intimidating? Wally is the first Grey I'd ever describe as intimidating--and ONLY when he's showing his smile LOL!

Hahahahaha!!!!

Actually we had an amusing "incident" on Sunday at work.

The cat rescue brought in the newest foster to work. She put him in his condo and set about taking pictures of him. His condo is right next to Wally's bed (since he likes to hang in the cat section). When she was done taking the cat's picture she took a pic of Wally. Now Wally is not only an attention hog, but he also has learned to ham it up for the camera ever since we worked for the pet photographer.
ANYWAY she took his picture and he gave her the "you must come love on me for hours" intense eyes that he gives to anyone who gives him even the slightest amount of attention. The woman says in a panicked tone "Why's he staring at me like that?" Then proceeds to scream "Why's he staring at me like that" and jumps and hides behind her husband. Uhhhh . . .

So I told the story to my mom. My mom said "Well apparently she's just a cat person." BUT here's the funny thing: She isn't afraid of Teeny, who though is small, does look like an "evil pit bull" in most people's eyes AND she loves Cora, who is an 85 pound Rottie. Yet is TERRIFIED of my Greyhound WHO SHE DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WAS A GREYHOUND until after we explained to her why he was staring at her.

So yeah, I guess they can be intimidating. They stare a lot, and their teeth are **** big. LOL! But personally I think they look far more snuggly than anything else. But maybe it's just me . . .

Maybe because greyhounds are big?

If she's not a dog person or she's afraid of any dog she could be really scared even if greys are not muscular.

That or she ment "scary" the fact that they are so skinny :lol-sign:

I've always thought of greys as being sweet couch potatoes. But I guess that's what I get for having a friend that had a gazillion rescued greys growing up! I was around them all the time.

Still could never tell his dogs apart though. They were all the exact same brindle color...

EDIT: Though, if she's not a dog person, maybe that's the deal. I had someone who was deathly afraid of dogs over and she was absolutely terrified of even Beau. Wouldn't go anywhere near him even though he was behaving.

Hey, watch it! I'm a freshman too! XD Quit stereotyping~

I've never found greyhounds intimidating. I begged my dad to rescue one when I was 5, after seeing a greyhound race XD

To me my greys have the most expressive eyes full of love, it did take time especially for my first to come out of herself - never known any affection before but now you can see she adores me and me her!

I think the only scary thing about a greyhound is that they might hurt you with their skinny-ness when they sit in your lap?

Ignoring the above photos... I think Greyhounds have some of the softest, most expressive faces. But intimidating? I think most, if not all of the sight hounds have that sweet-natured look to them.

I did find them a bit intimidating, the first time I met one I was hanging over the fence at the races when I was little wanting to talk to the dogs, they came up and I wasn't allowed to pat them the handler said, I think I put that with that they had a muzzle on.
The secons time we had one race up and start circling our maltese X, by that time I knew they were dogs used for hunting small animals and I got a bit nervous.

I've never been intimidated by them but atleast here you have to always have them muzled in public which doesn't help

I've gotta say that I've never heard anyone say that they were intimidating at all. However I guess the pointy faces could be intimidating...if you're a rabbit.
