Hey mods, I'm wondering. Is there any way we can sticky this pet recall stuff until it's over?

This is soooo horrible. I still think that even this has been going on a while now, that this is only the tip of the iceberg unfortunately.

Oh man, where will it all end?? And more useful advice from the FDA, I see . . .

FDA: Don't worry, we've told you about all the contaminated food now . . . . Wait, NOW we have . . . . Hang on, we're widening the contamination dates, okay, NOW we've told you all about them . . . Hang on, this just in . . .

FDA Translation: Just keep feeding your pets that stuff that's not on the list yet, and if anybody dies we will let you know. Maybe.

Yes, don't you love how they say something like, "The public should be assured that such and such is safe." (something like that) Tell me.....HOW ON EARTH SHOULD THE PUBLIC FEEL ASSURED????!!!!! It's an outrage!

I looked on the package of these soft tubular shaped treats from Nutro...kind of smoked flavored things. They are not on the list. However, it says on the ingredients list on back, wheat gluten. So, I tossed them. But I've been using them. What do you think? Are they or are they not contaminated do you think?

I'll see about getting this stickied.

I don't know Dober. I think you did the right thing. It just seems that the FDA doesn't release much unless somebody else tries to publicize it first. Very disconcerting because it is obvious that somebody is operating in reactive mode. I dumped a box of those square Nutro Biscuits someone gave Tosca for her birthday too. I just don't want to take chances right now. Her treats are all human food right now. I feel badly because she always waits for her evening biscuit, but I have to do what's in her best interest. This is become more scary by the day and very tedious. It's like you are looking for food landmines.

I get hard, crunchy treats made by Canidae or Chicken Soup for the pet lovers soul. They're free of wheat gluten. But these days, it's like, OK....free of wheat gluten. But what else, what next? Even human food isn't necessarily safe. It's a scary world.

Recall has expanded again, this time to Canadian-made foods:

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/04/11/pet.food.recall.ap/index.html

The pet food recall expanded further Tuesday to include products made at a Canadian factory recently found to have used an ingredient tainted by an industrial chemical.

Menu Foods previously had recalled only cat and dog food made at its plants in New Jersey and Kansas, saying they were its only facilities to have taken delivery of imported wheat gluten later found contaminated with melamine.

However, Menu Foods discovered Monday that some of the tainted wheat gluten had made it to Canada. It was prompted to account for the ingredient by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which told the company that tests had detected the chemical in pet foods made at its Streetsville, Ontario, plant.
Among the products covered by the expanded recall is Royal Canin Canada's Medi-Cal Feline Dissolution Formula canned diet, made by Menu Foods and sold only through veterinarians. A single production lot contained the contaminated wheat gluten, the company said.

Recall expanded again, more dry food

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/04/17/pet.food.recall.ap/index.html

Natural Balance Pet Foods recalled two kinds of pet food after receiving reports of animals vomiting and experiencing kidney problems, the Food and Drug Administration said Monday.

The recall includes all date codes of Venison & Brown Rice Dry Dog Food and Venison & Green Pea Dry Cat Food.

The company does not know the cause of the problem, but said it is focused on one particular lot.

Natural Balance Pet Foods is working with the FDA to investigate the matter and is urging consumers to not feed either pet food product to their animals.
Also, shouldn't this thread be moved to the Dog Food sub-forum? This is the most expansive pet food recall in history and I don't think "General Discussion" will get the thread the attention it deserves.
