Hi and welcome to the forum! Your baby girl is very cute and please try to excuse some of us who just try to stick up for the resposible breeders of dogs due to our love of them. I'm glad you decided to spay your little girl. She will be much happier and healthier for years to come. Please understand that your dog is not "Purebred" even though the two breeds are similar. Breeding her will not better either of the breeds it will just make more "designer dogs" or mixed breeds with cutesy names. Good luck with her and please post more pictures!
Thank you! I'm glad we're spaying her also....I'll try and get more pictures. ;)

so what was the point in crossing the two breeds? what is this mix giving you that a yorkie or a silky would not?
we thought we were getting Silky pups originally...but found out differently after she already had the pups, and we'd already agreed to pick of the litter to the BYB who scammed us into breeding w/ her Yorkie...it's a long story really....we kept Lucy to breed, and when we realized she was a 'Silkshire' and not a Silky, my parents wanted to still breed her, but after more research (and a little help on this site) we've decided to spay her. ;)

Dixie, Do you have another dog? Her father?

No, the father belonged to a BYB (we didn't know this at the time). If you read some of the above posts, hopefully you'll get the story. We basically got scammed, and it's not going to happen again. I'm NOT going to become a BYB!!;)

But, we do have an AKC registered Yorkie who I plan to show in Jouniors,(I'm only 14) and then (since I'll only be 17 by the time she's old enough for OFA, and CERF testing) after we get her tested, we're going to get a pup out of her and I'm going to show him and title him(her). Dixie, the Yorkie, is the one in my Icon. :)

Ohh! -slaps forehead- I thought you where breeding Silky/Yorkie crosses intentionally.

But I agree, please stick to purebreds if you do decide to breed. However, I would advise against it since you're age!! You have many things ahead of you in your life and you don't want newborn pups holding you back! Get them spayed and go doggie sky-diving! :D

Spending the next few years researching the breed you choose to breed will really help you in the long-run, plus you wouldn't have to get be a Jr. Handler first. You could always get involved in Jr Handling with your Yorkie, they do accept spayed or neutered dogs I believe, there's more info about it on the AKC website. I'd be a Junior Handler if only Charlie was a purebred! I plan on being a dog breeder too when I retire, that's a LONG time from now! But I can dream, can't I? ;)

Edit: Late Post, I just read ^, this message took forever to press 'Send' because I was multi-tasking

You may rethink when you're 17 .... a litter takes many $$s and time. Kudos to you for your thinking up to now !!! Take your time and continue learning !

Good for you for having the maturity to think about the issue and decide to spay her! :) Have fun showing your yorkie, I'll bet that will be a great learning experience!

Thank you. I've been reseaching alot lately, and I've saved up some $$, (but spent $1500 of it on my Yorkie :yikes: ) and my parents are there for support, and everything....so I think it'll be alright. My parents used to raise Labs, and then we had this litter of the 'silky/yorkies', so I've whelped a couple litters plus helped out neighbors and things when pups were born (my neighbor where i use to live bred Schnauzers-sp?). I don't think my love for animals will ever change though, and I have about a year and 1/2 to research. (Dixie's about 6mo, and we won't be breeding her until she's 2, and has been OFA, and CERF tested.) Thanks again to everyone who's posted nice comments. My dad doesn't want us to spay her (i suppose it's a guy thing...?? :lol-sign: ) but we are going to anyway, she'll be happier. :)

Cute dog but for the record, that registry isn''t a "real registry" it''s just a way fro people breeding disgner mutts to get their pups papers so they can seem more important. It garuntees nothing on health or sturdiness of temperment or really anything...I don''t even know wht the point of it is LOL
Oh, just thought I'd mention, I don't think we're going to send in her NAMBR papers....they're probably a waste of $25-huh?

I'm glad you decided to spay and not breed. :) You know you'll never have any "oops" litters and she'll have less chances of having certain problems in the future (than a non spayed).
I hope (the other)she does very well in her showings and that she passes all her CERF and OFA testing when she's older. Make sure she's of good temperament and quality and that you have plenty of $$ and the necessary help/supplies before you breed...and a good health guarantee + homes chosen before they are born (hopefully).
Good Luck and have fun with showing her. :)

Pretty much ;) Basically the registry just allows BYBers to say their pups have "papers" and are "registered" (giving impresion that the pups are registered by the AKC or CKC or FCI or any registry with as much respect) which also makes their pups sound better so they can jump the price even more.

i realise you want to show your yorkie, but do you realise how much work is put into showing, u have to teach her to stack, show gait stuff like that,

plus even getting a ch for a good dog isnt that easy

is it conformation you plan to title her in?

also what champions does she have in her pedigree?
