I am more of a type person, for and against.

I don't like silly, goofy, love everyone dogs. So that means most retrievers, boxers etc aren't my sort of thing.

Droopy eyes, can't do it. Makes my eyes water in sympathy and that is no fun. So that rules out Danes, bassets etc

Nothing over jowly. So no boxers, danes, etc.

I love many of these dogs as other people's dogs but I wouldn't want them for myself.

I like hard, no non-sense dogs with intelligence, athleticism and a natural inkling to stay close and work.

I really like, but likely wouldn't own (for myself):
American Bulldog
APBT
Am Staff
Boxers
Some Border Collies
Some Koolies
Some Kelpies
Some Vizslas
Some JRTs

I obviously really, really like and plan on owning:
ACDs

Everything else I do not care for.

This may be regional, but our daycare does not have a single doodlw that has two brain cell to rub together. Everytime one runs by me, I just hear this litany of "derpty, derpty, derpty, doodley, doodley, doodley".
Oh my god yes. I'm pretty sure retriever intelligence and poodle intelligence cancel each other out because I have yet to meet a doodle with a brain. I know several in the 5-10 year old range, and it's still " derpty derpty derpty doodley doodley doodley" forever. Whereas labs and Golden's actually learn and poodles at least mellow out a bit.

German Shepherd Dog, Siberian Husky, American Cocker Spaniel.

Those are the top I can think of now that I just do not like or want to own. I tolerate them if I have to (and in the case of GSDs, do live with one), but I would never seek any of these breeds out to own personally.

Breeds I'm not fond of are GSD's, Labs, Goldens, any kind of doodle, and Chihuahuas.

I think GSD's are gorgeous, but I have never met one I liked temperamentally.

Labs and Goldens are generally too happy for my liking. I like a certain amount of aloofness in a dog.

Most doodles I have met lack any kind of intelligence, and I honestly don't like the looks of them (I can be quite vain when it comes to dogs ).

Chihuahuas are just too small. I'd worry about stepping on it.

And in general, I don't think I'd ever own a large dog (over 55-60 pounds). There are a lot of big dog breeds that I like, but I don't think I would ever own because of their size.

I LOVE most herding dogs, but mainly ACD's and Koolies (from what I've read/seen about them). Only breed I'm FOR SURE going to own in the future though is an ACD. I'll be stuck with herders for life. :D

I like medium sized herding breeds and medium gundogs like HPR breeds and working spaniels.

I like biddable dogs who like to do stuff with you. A dog that really has a mind of its own/independant/primitive breeds I am less keen on. I also like very physically affectionate dogs, so nothing aloof. With their family that is, I also would not own a breed where everyone, human and canine, is absolutely their new bestest friend, it seems so undignified! I am quite a reserved person myself. A Goldie would be a bad match for me, I'm sure it would end up depressed.

Strangely enough I find the breeds that Gael, my 5 year old BC girl, doesn't like and tries to avoid, tend to be the dogs i would least like to own so she has picked something up there! I hope I am not as obvious to their owners as I am to her :)

So what breeds can you never see yourself owning?
Almost all of them! Really, I can only think of maybe 8 breeds that I could ever see myself owning, so there's quite a plethora of "others".

There are a lot of breeds I wouldn't own BUT do like - they are just bad fits for me in one way or another.

The first breed that comes to mind with which I REALLY do not enjoy interacting is boxers. I don't do drool, I don't do body slamming, I don't do pushy. I've trained with a couple, which is probably why they really jump to mind. The drool is a serious, serious no for me. I did house-sit for one years ago that I loved. But he was a rescue and was teeny tiny (like BC sized) and I don't recall him drooling at all. So obviously the dislike is generalized.

I don't think I'd own most toy breeds - but I love playing with ones that belong to other people. I'd break a chihuahua, but my friend had one that was one of the coolest dogs I've ever met. I would never own a dog that needed professional grooming, but I will happily snuggle with someone else's little poodle or terrier or whatever.

I also could never live with the majority of sporting breeds, but again, I am more than happy to play fetch with someone's retriever. Just take it with you when you leave, thanks.

Hairy dogs come to mind first& foremost. Followed closely by ones with droopy eyes.

I Really only ever see myself owning a Vizsla& some shorthaired herder ..so. That knocks a lot of breeds off the table lol

Pretty much anything that is not a herder, lol.
Glad I'm not the only one. I only love herding dogs.

I am not a fan of chihuahuas either, in case anyone was wondering. Ru is basically a stuffed animal and only gets to stay because he puts up with everybody with zero aggression and has a deeper bark than Brisbane.

I really dislike most short legged terrier breeds temperament wise. Tenacious and obnoxious when in inappropriately in drive is just not something I enjoy. I would rather be dogless.

Also the noise that comes out of mini schnauzers is a deal breaker.

Pretty much most other dogs I am ok with.

I don't know if you are often trying to be funny in your posts regarding him or what, but your disdain for your dog kind of disgusts me.

I bring this up every time we have a thread like this, but Weimaraners. I met tons of Weims and there was only a SINGLE dog that wasn't neurotic and awful. ughhhh Weims.
Shudder... :lol-sign: Weims are universally awful.

I don't do Asian breeds. Akitas, Shibas, Chows, Shar-Peis etc. Nope.

Pekingnese and Schnauzers.

Short-legged breeds.

There's no real breeds that are a definite no for me. Though I wasn't the biggest fan of the cane corsi. I guess I'm not a huge fan of fluff white things either.

Eta: no wait. Drool. Can't stand drooly dogs.

To be honest, I have a hard time liking a lot of dogs that aren't mine or my friends'. Sounds weird as I am definitely a dog person and love dogs. It's less about breed than it is about the behaviour some people let their dogs get away with. I just find most pet dogs out of control and I have a hard time liking them often, regardless of breed. Sad.

That said, I don't care for most pit bull types due to their extreme desperation for affection and in your face-ness. Same with a lot of Labs, Goldens, and surprisingly, many Rottweilers (the ones I had growing up we're friendly but more reserved). I still like several dogs of those breeds or types, but generally speaking, we clash big time. I know, sounds weird coming from an Aussie owner haha. But Journey is very polite for an Aussie IMO compared to what other people say about them and she's mine.

I also don't like super introverted dogs. Border Collies and I are kind of hit and miss. I love some, but a lot of the time I find them too introverted and kind of weird around people and dogs. Even a few that I know really well. My Border Collie mix was similar. She made me feel like a fool if I acted goofy around her haha.

I also am not a terrier person. I enjoy my friend's terriers, but I've learned that I would not enjoy living with them.

But yeah, overall, like I said: it's more an individual dog thing than a breed thing for me I've found over the years.

Breeds I enjoy being around the most are: Aussies, Tollers, Dobermans (surprise, surprise on those three lol) and surprisingly the race bred Whippets I've been around.

I used to say I wasn't a hound person, then I got Maisy
Then I used to say I wasn't a northern breed person, and I got Squash
Then I used to say I wasn't a herder person, and I got Toast

I'm still pretty sure I'm not a terrier person, though god only knows at this rate.
