OMG. I was out shopping all evening so I didn't even know until I logged on here. Having a really hard time processing that he's dead. Just wow. =< So sad...
Fat does not actually make you fat the way people think. My fat macro is pretty high since I'm mostly primal... carbs are low since I don't eat much grain nor fruits that are really high in carbs. Fat plays a big role in our satiety feelings too. This is actually part of why some people who go paleo have major trouble eating enough calories - your gut gets full with veggies (physical bulk) and meat (fat triggering your satiety mechanism) and you don't feel as hungry.
(I am not, by the way, advocating paleo or primal as a weight loss diet, just using it as an example.)
There are two ways to approach a caloric deficit. You can try to dial it back in smaller increments at first, 100-200 calories per week, so you don't have that "OMG I AM STARVING" from going on a steep cut right away. Or you can go big cut and just tough it out. It's kind of like quitting smoking... some people are successful going cold turkey, some people prefer to just wean themselves off slowly. Different people work in different ways so it's just up to you and your individual personality to know what will work best for you. I'm a go-all-in kind of person myself but I know people who do much better with the slower approach. It's really all about what will work best for YOU since it's YOUR body in question!

Starting tomorrow, I'm going to have to make some serious adjustments to my eating habits. I was a bit conscientious of what I was eating today and thus didn't have my "dessert" like I normally do after lunch o). Even then, I'm now at home and just had some leftovers for dinner and am only 170cal short of my calorie max and I'm still hungry. I know calorie guides are a guideline and nutrition is just as important as calories, but dang. Had I eaten how I normally would have today I would be WAY over calorie limit. And probably fat limit.
