I would not have wanted a home birth...I like to support the fine work of the people who invented epidurals. But, I think everyone should have (or attempt) whatever birth is comfortable to them :)
This.

Maybe if I have a second I'll consider a home birth but I need options going I to this as I have no clue how I will handle it all. Also, DH. He will need support too! At least with a midwife I have the option of laboring at home for as long as possible and getting out of the hospital as early as possible too!

I was only in the hospital for the required 24 hours:) They offer a second day, but I declined as I didn't feel it necessary.

This is what I'm hoping for too. My mother/MIL/grandmothers keep freaking out at this but I hate being in the hospital and will want to come home to shower, my own bed, and the dogs.

Here you are required to stay 24 hours and you can have an option to stay up to 48 hours if you choose. The two insurance plans I've had have both covered up to 48 hours for a non c-section birth.

I'm in Ontario so that likely makes a difference.

Ultrasound at 8:00am and I should be sleeping but I can't! Too excited and nervous!

It's a...

GIRL!
She was entirely uncooperative and sat on her legs almost the entire time. But there were a few times where she kicked off and the tech got the money shot.

What was super cool was that I was totally right about where her head was sitting-- just to the right and slightly below my belly button.

Yeah, they can do whatever they want, but when my friend says she wants a home birth in a pool with only a few people... I can't help but be like "Lady, you crazy."
lol and I'm sure she thinks the same of you. :)

Birthing centers offer a compromise for those uncomfortable having a child in a hospital but also not comfortable with a home birth.

Yeah we don't have birth centers here yet, although they are building two of them in 2013 in Ontario. Probably not in the city I'm in though. The more options, the better!

For now at least she is Lillian Helen Rice.
Beautiful!

Thanks Adrianne and Jen! It's hubby's pick. I got to pick the boys name. It's growing on me. It fits well with her two cousins Hannah and Emily-- all very girly names.

I really wish there was a birthing center near us - the closest one is a little over an hour away and I'm just not comfortable with that. :|
