They hurt, they're ugly, and they shouldn't exist.

I am ready to turn away clients that drop off their dogs with these things, they're the deeeeeeevil.

On that strand of thought... Why the heck does Becket's owner shop at the most amazing dog store in town for treats and toys but not food?! Seriously why give only wellness and zukes brand treats but feed Hill's Science diet?!

I can see chain leashes being a PITA for sure. My main reason for not using them though is because they're ugly!

My pet peeve for today is training collars used as daily collars. Prong collar with dogs tags on it. Lovely. Punishment callous anyone? Prong collar on a 13 week old puppy, in a puppy pile up, playing with other pups. Just duckie.

Dog laying on a sofa sleeping wearing an e-collar. Not a bark collar, remote e-collar. Really?

/rant :)

It's pretty common when you're training a dog with an e collar to have them wear the e collar or a dummy collar even when you're not training to prevent the dog being "collar wise."

I own a dog who wears a choke chain as a regular collar. the rings are simply zipped together so it can't tighten. Her only other option is no collar so I feel better about having something on her to identify her by.

Dog tags on a prong... what if you walk your dog on a prong collar and have them not wear a collar at home?

This is just another thread where people need to worry a little less about what other people are doing and spend some more time walking their own dog.

Well you can always send the chain ones to me ;) - they make *awesome* indoor tethers for puppies learning house manners and I can't find a chain leash around here anywhere!

I wouldn't want to walk a dog in one just because they can't be comfortable to hold.... And I also enjoy my dogs being cute when out and about lol.

I remember the week Izzy chewed through two leashes while we were working on house manners. That's when we invested in Lupines!

I've never really gotten the point of them, besides being impossible to chew through, which I can see coming in handy. I'd hate to see possible teeth damage to a really determined dog, though.

For some reason this reminded me. . .I don't like choke chains or prongs (though I'd rather see prongs- at least they're unlikely to crush a trachea), but I was going through dog stuff and I have a choke collar. Don't remember buying it, definitely never used it. Seriously, WTF?

Ugh. I hate chain leashes. They are murder on the hands. Or maybe that's just because I don't allow dogs six feet of freedom in the vet's office and I've yet to meet a dog wearing one who had any kind of leash manners whosoever.

I can see the chewing issue. I wouldn't walk with one because they're heavy and they don't look *at all* comfortable to hold. But to each his own...I don't like the feel of nylon leashes, either. *shrugs*

Like another poster said lots of people get their dogs to wear e-collars outside of training so the dog doesn't become collar smart. I really don't see how that is an issue?

I don't like chain leashes either, yuck! But I also hate those crappy nylon leashes, they are just as bad on your hands! Hand made leather leashes only here :)

I also hate chain leashes. I see them making good tethers/tie-downs, but that's about it.

Stardogs, I have one somewhere. If I can find it, you're welcome to have it.

The owner has been using an e-collar on this particular dog for YEARS.
I have an issue in this particular case on many levels, but this is not an e-collar thread, nor am I going to discuss one particular person and their dogs on a public forum. I'd rather talk about them behind their back :D <--- that's an attempt at levity, 'cause I'm really not in the mood for one of "those" threads :)

Why even bring it up then?
