So to start off, a few things we noticed in the way of differences between the US and Canada.
The US has far more reasonable speed limits. And thus less speeders than we usually see (except CT for some reason) I loved 70 mph speed limits.
High Fructose corn syrup. It was EVERYWHERE. We don't have it. Like at all up here. Seems all the tasty things we liked aren't available up here because companies don't want to reformulate. Talking with Ben and Becca about "cane" sugar was interesting. Here its "sugar". When it says sugar that means it came from sugar cane...
Off Ramps and merging. (lots of driving notes... as we did lots and lots of driving... over 4000 miles) Here off ramps tend to be gradual, you don't have to go from fast to really slow right away to avoid flipping over. It took some getting used too. Merging, I don't know if its cause we have more land... but here you typically get long merging lanes, in the US we just kind of closed our eyes and went for it. (little kia with trailer didn't have an abundance of acceleration)
Signs advertising for hospitals.. we dont' have them. Things about freedom and things about God, we don't have those either.
Ticks... for anyone who read our blog... ewww the ticks.
Cheap food and cheap gas. Most foods were much cheaper in the US and gas at its best was almost half the price it is here. Oh and we don't have pre pay gas. Here you pump your gas and then go in and pay how ever much it took.
Divided hwys. LOVED them. I loved driving along and not looking at on coming traffic for hours on end. Much much prettier. We need more here.
Toll roads, and road condition. Over all the roads are in better condition here and we don't have toll roads for the most part. Strange but true. (I thought paying for roads would make them better...)
Lack of mosquitos in the south, almost made up for the ticks. Did I mention the ewww ticks....?
Lack of lakes and cottages. Now this could be because we are in Ontario where we have a ridiculous amount of rivers and lakes. But here you drive by any lake and there are cottages all the way around. Most places we went it was state park property around the lake... looking at the map it kind of makes sense as there are far far less lakes.
Swimming, seems people don't swim in states with 'I', at least not in natural bodies of water. They do seem to have a plethora of water parks....
In NY we over heard lots of people saying "string" for leash. Oh I should put my dog on a string, see that dog is on a string... didn't hear it anywhere else though.
Grammar and general Gerry Springer show stuff. We didn't think there were people like that in real life. You know all paid actors and such. Nope, they are REAL!!
Poverty. I have never seen people so poor before, or so many 'ghost towns'. Ran into a family at a gas station in TN where the kids had no shoes and the Dad's sandals were completely worn away from the ball of the foot forward. All sorts of abandoned buildings, homes and businesses. Even banks boarded up..
There is likely more but this is all we can remember for the moment...
Now for the PICS!!!
be patient there are MANY
Darien took this pic on our way crossing into the US.. whoot we were on our way!!
Not long after crossing we see this... def not in Canada anymore!
Kat chillin in her crate in the back... little did she know she had nearly a month of this.
Our first stay was in Thompson lake state park. The park was Meh (showers were good though 8/10 on our shower scale) The hiking near by was fantastic.
The over look.
ever so much more....
