There is a woman who walks her dog down the side street next to my house every day. She'll encourage the dog to do it's duty on my neighbors lawn, and she doesn't pick it up. This really irritates me as 1: it's a law here to clean up after your dog and 2: it's just bad manners.

Well yesterday she lets the dog go on my yard. My dogs started barking so I went to check it out, and there she is with her dog doing it's business on my yard. I call out to her "Are you planning on picking that up?" and she mumbles something about forgetting her bag and walked off. I knew she had no intention of coming back to pick it up because she's never picked it up and she never brings a bag along, and it just po'd me even more.

In this situation would you
1: pick up the crap and throw it on her front porch, maybe smear it in for good measure. (this is what I really want to do but my wife advises against it. Not quite in those words)
2:next time she walks by yell at her for being irresponsible and remind her that its' the law to clean up after your dog
3: the next time she walks by stand outside with a video camera and tell her I'm going to tape her breaking the law and turn her in.
4: follow her down the street with a bag in my hand and hand it to her when her dog does it's thing.
5: put up a no tresspassing sign, take Gunnar outside and have him do a "pas auf" for good measure. :)

I know this is really piddly stuff in today's world, but it angers me that someone can be so self centered that they think it's ok for me to clean up their dog crap because they are too lazy to do it themselves. Why can't she let the dog go in her own yard and then pick it up. It'd be one thing if she was just walking the dog, but she'll walk it down here and then stop and stand there waiting for it to go. The other neighbors whose lawns her dog are using for a toilet are very meticulous about their property and I'm sure they don't appreciate it either, but they don't know who it is because she walks the dog during the day when people are at work.

It's not piddly stuff. I have a neighbor that lets his dog out at midnight and lets it run. no way to call AC at that time. THe dog has destroyed my ferns, my columbine, and knocked over bottles of plants i had rooting in water on my porch. THis neighbor is spiteful and I am afraid to call because who knows what he will do. I hate ths neighbor not the dog. I feel sorry for the dog because one day I know I will see him dead in the road.

I have seen him jump a fence to fight with the dogs inside and he rips trash almost every trash night. I can't even put my recycling in my car port becuase he tears it all up. I confess i have thrown a rock at him.

If you see her again yell out.. hold on a sec.. and go get her a bag.

Or if you know where she lives you could just drop a note in her mail box saying that you have noticed she isn't cleaning up after her dog and its not nice lol.

I Considered making a sign that had a dog hiking it's leg in a Circle with a slash line for all the others that walk their dog by where this dog has urinated and feel the need to cover it up. Thought maybe the owner would read it. My dogs know better than to hike on any of my garden no matter what the smell.

i'm vindictive so i vote for the doorbell ditch w/ a flaming bag of poop. video tape her doind it AND you informing her of her responsibility then inform all the neighbors you've seen her do it to and everyone go dump their dog's crap on her lawn & she'll get the idea when there is a wheel barrow full of the stuff there.

I would write her a friendly polite letter. the smearing of poop and those kinds of things just tend to start wars between neighbors lol

"dear Mr/Mrs. X
I noticed that you walk your dog by my house everyday, and thats absolutely fine, you have a very lovely dog, I have a german shepherd myself.
Thing is, we take great pride in the care and maintenance of our home and yard. Our kids play in the front yard and we do have visitors very often so we would really appreciate if you could pick up after your dog if he goes to the bathroom on our property.
Ill leave some bags out there for you, in case you don't have any and your more than welcome to dispose of it in our trashcans so you dont have to carry it around all the way home.

Sincerly,
Mr.Y "

Id take the dog and Throw it at her door.. It should stick pretty good.. If you see her doing it again hand her a bag.. Id also let your dog give her a "nice" warning :) .. as you can probably tell I have ZERO tolerance for this kinda thing!

Fransheska, you are WAY too nice!

I will certainly talk to her the next time she comes by. I'm not going to yell but I'm not going to be real nice about it either. These people just moved in a couple months ago, the houses down the other end of the side street are all rentals and typically the people are there for less than a year so I'm not worried about being a bad neighbor. I own my house, have lived here for 10 years, and take pride in my neighborhood and no one who is your typical bad dog owner is going to dictate the condition of my street to me with their actions. I'm guessing this dog isn't licensed either, I don't see tags on it's collar, but I don't have my dogs tags on a collar either, for that matter my dogs don't wear one unless we're walking them.

All of the above!

Or......

Let her dog poop for a week or more and then you go out and collect it all, plus Gunner's and Daisy's. Make sure you know where she lives and take it all....a big bucket of it and dump it, but not all in one place, all over her lawn, path, steps, whatever.

I rather like the sound of this one:

5: put up a no tresspassing sign, take Gunnar outside and have him do a "pas auf" for good measure.
But what exactly does Gunnar do when he's in the pas auf mode? Does he just watch and guard or does he make noises and spooky stalking body language? That needs to be in there...lots of growly, snarly noises etc. You may need to ask him to gib laut while he's at it. ;)

Does she have a set schedule? Or can you see when she's walking down your road every time? If so, every time, go running out with Gunner and follow her... follow, stalk, track (such?) whatever you want to call it. Just make her nervous. Pick up her poop behind her and take it to her house to dump on her lawn. Harass her until she stops walking down your road. But then she'll just do it to someone else. Hmmm....just thinking out loud here.

Anyhow, I feel your pain. That would tick me off royally if I lived in a neighborhood setting with a small yard. Here, dogs and other animals poop in my pasture, but I have 5 acres so I don't even notice and don't really care. It's not a lot of dogs anyhow. It's just the neighbor's across the lane that wander over. But yeah, if I lived in town, I'd be PISSSST too. :mad:I like a nice lawn and that just isn't right! You'll have to let us know what you do. I hope you do something.

6. Call Crime Watch / Call Homeowners Assoc.
7. Record it, place on Youtube with her name and address
8. Take a photo of her dog mid-poop, place it on a trash can out in front of your lawn
9. Armed Security Guard / Viscous alarm dog tied near the sidewalk
10. Concrete your grass

I would just get in her face about it if she didn't want to listen from a distance. Maybe take my camera out and make like I was a paparazzi, making sure I had 10 times more photos of the crime that I would need and close ups of the poop as well as her face.

Some people are just rude, I agree.

first, I would leave a nice note or talk to her about cleaning up after the dog.

Then, I would put any poop she didn't pick up(on your yard or the neighbors) on her front porch, video tape her in the action, send a copy to AC, and put Gunnar on patrol. :)

I like just following her around with a roll of bags. Be incredibly, annoying polite about it "Ohh I see you forgot your bags AGAIN, that's such a shame. It's your lucky day though! Since we know how forgetful you are and I'm assuming poor because you NEVER have bags, we all chipped in and bought you a roll! Oh and you don't have to worry about forgetting these, because I'm going to hold on to them for you and just give you one when you need it. Oh no no no, don't even think about over exerting yourself carrying these, I'm sure they must be quite heavy for someone like you."

neighbor wars can be ugly but if they have done this to multiple residents they may not know who put poo on their door.

It's an aggressive lunge to the end of the lead with a lot of noise. He'll be sitting calmly, I whisper that, and it's game on. She'd probably have more crap to clean up if I did that. :)

As far as the note stuff goes, I'm actually not sure if she can read. At least on the level to comprehend "clean up after your dog".
