I do think there is a lot of insanity surrounding this election. Prop 8 is starting to get really heated around here and my friend actually witnessed a group of "yes" supporters (who were teenage Christians) assault... yes, assault a woman on a street corner. She was taking pictures of them on her camera phone and three girls surrounded her, pulled her hair, and attempted to take her phone.

My friend had to stay there and hold all the dogs (they were on a dog walk when they witnessed all this) while her friend gave statement to the police. She was standing there holding 4 dogs when the girls then came up to her. One girl was screaming and yelling and shouting that she was a dyke and should be dead. Her friends had to actually hold her back while she screamed, "I'm going to kill you," at my friend. They were screaming because my friend "looks weird" and "gay"... they have no idea Donyale is a firefighter who may one day save their life. They were acting simply on looks.

We're talking about 15 year old girls displaying this kind of behavior. It's frightening. This is what happens when fear takes over.

As for the skinheads? If you're dumb enough to think you're going to be able to go on a killing spree that will end with the president, well I'm surprised you can tie your own shoes.

Change can be scary, the unknown can be frightening, but if people never took a chance then America wouldn't exist. I bet there were a bunch on nay-sayers back in the day predicting sailing boats across the ocean would lead to falling over a cliff, but folks took a chance and look where we are. It's hard, but we need to embrace progress, not fear it irrationally.

:hail: :hail:

I fear no good outcome to this election, regardless of who wins. I also don't know enough about the Libertarian candidate at this time to vote for him in good conscience, even though that's the party I typically test "in line" with.

I miss heard the guy on the radion this morning... I thought thay HAD plotted and succeded. :yikes: I was in the shower so I only caught bits and pieces, but heck it scared me, and made me angry! What really saddens me the most, is that they were 'skinheads'... doesn't help the already not-so-good German image.

Don't worry. We don't associate skinheads with Germans . . .we associate them with morons. Hitler may have been German, but people who idolize him are idiots . . .regardless of nationality.

absolutely do not think of Germany in any way GQ. They (various hate groups here) really just have the market cornered on disenfranchised youth the skinhead movement here it seems. The boys have nothing to do and a lot of anger and they love that, the various groups. It's sad these young men don't have better guidance in their lives...just like gang members of all colors. That time in a young man or woman's life is so vulnerable...

I believe the fear she was referring to is the now very obvious fear some white groups have about a black president, puck.
I can honestly say that Obama's color has NOTHING to do with my disagreeing with him. Not one tiny little factor.

There was a time when I thought I would vote for a WOMAN if she ran just because she was a woman. ANY woman would have done at the time.........I was under the same impression of "we need a change" Men have been in that position for far too long.......blah blah blah. Hillary changed my view of that REAL quick, hahahaha

I am tired of both parties. Republicans seem to lean toward helping the rich, Democrats seem to lean towards helping the poor and us middle class are left in the crunch no matter who wins.

There has to be a first in all things. It is not easy..it is not fun...but it must happen. Ask Jackie Robinson...ask Martin Luther King Jr if they would have changed anything, left it to another,...if you could ask them I just bet the answer would be no.

This America is plainly one that needs more firsts...and change is never without incident. But that does not mean the change should not happen. People cannot live in fear...and allow fear to limit their dreams.

Period.
That post really deserves more attention, Gina :)

I understand, but there are people grouping all us "whities" together who don't want to vote for Obama and it's not any better than grouping any other religious or racial group together.

We have friends, and the wife is Catholic and the husband is Muslim. He is a new American citizen (like last year I think it was final) We haven't seen them in a while and I just learned that he supports Obama (finally met a real life supporter)

Wanna know why? Because of his Muslim background. Not because he's black, white, or any issues...............

To me that makes no sense. Not any different than my FIL voting for a person who *claims* to have christian values..........not that they are displayed in their life, but they said they do so they get his vote.

Blargh..........I get tired of talking/hearing/reading politics. It's all a big messy joke, LOL

absolutely understood, AC. Even white people are grouping one another,...someone posted that letter circulated to Obama voters in an affluent neighborhood that implied their own unexpressed racism was driving them to vote Obama and they should seek counselling...so yes I do agree that people are being put into boxes based upon the box they check on voting day...

which is sad, indeed!

Yes, technically that's true :) But he was the leader of Germany . . . and Austria, but that was later.
What can I say? LOL I am a TOTAL history geek.

Lets just say that it is a good thing the Austrians did not resist the Anschluss. The German 'invasion' of Austria was a complete and utter goat rope.

Nothing wrong with being a total history geek . . . I have my moments too . . . though I wasn't really aiming for historical accuracy in my first remark :)

I can tell you now the only reason we do not have a political sign up is I don't want to be targeted.

Until four years ago my school was almost 100% white. We would have black families move in and leave after a few weeks. Which we didn't learn till later is they were getting crosses burned in their yards:(

Maybe growing up were I did it just shocks me even more that obama has made it this far.

One of my coworkers wouldn't talk to me all night because I don't agree we should blindly vote mccain in because palin is a women and all women should support her no matter what she believes:eek:

I actually had someone basically say flat out to my face that if you don't vote for Obama, then you're racist.

I think it's insane. If you're white and you don't vote for Obama, you're racist. If you're black and you do vote for Obama, it's just because he's black too. I've also heard the 'if you're white and well off and voting for Obama you're doing so so you don't appear racist'... And of course if you vote Obama, then you support 'Muslin' terrorists. ;)

Seriously damned if you do, damned if you don't in some people's eyes. And while I am sure some people are voting based on skin color either way, many people are actually voting on the issues. ;)

A little OT from the OP, lol.
