Do any of you look at what obese people are eating when you're out ?? Makes me sick !!!
Actually I don't much mind to what anyone is eating. Its not often that I go to a restaurant since I prefer cooking for my family at home so when we do go I am too busy enjoying (hopefully lol) my own food than to concern myself with what anyone has eaten.

ETA: I do however notice dessert lol.

Generally the same thing I'm eating (though sometimes more of it).

Difference is they order seconds and I eat only what's on my plate, and exercise. Well technically I eat what's on my plate and, dependent on the situation, what's left on others. Depends on how well I know them/what their personal opinion of that is.

Anyhow it's not the food, it's the will of the person behind the plate, in and outside of the restaurant.

Besides eating like a cow has nothing to do with portion size and everything to do with regurgitation.
Many a time I've envied the cow. Sitting in class or something listening to a boring lecture going "man, I'm hungry. I wish I could chew some cud or something..."

I actually find that rather offensive. I think it's horrible that people would take the time to think that. As far as I'm concerned, it's their life and not mine, their health, etc. They certainly DON'T need me to judge them or their weight. If you've ever actually been obese you'll know it's not always so cut and dried.

I actually WAS obese at the end of last year if you are going by BMI. Just barely obese (BMI 30) but still obese nonetheless. And I actually DIDN'T eat any worse or any more than my 'skinny' friends. Yeah, I'd go every now and then and completely pig out, but isn't that what college kids do? I certainly didn't need every person looking at me and saying 'omg, she shouldn't be eating that' because A) they don't know me or my lifestyle and B) I already know that this food isn't good for me! Your judgments are not helping. And you know what? My weight problem actually turned out to be medical related. I'm not saying that every person who is obese isn't just eating wrong and not exercising but keep in mind some people are probably eating healthier than you and are still 'overweight'. What if said 'obese person' has an undiagnosed underactive thyroid? What if they have hormone problems and an insulin resistence like I did? What if... what if... what if?

And I'm still overweight. 36 lbs lighter and actually not much overweight anymore, but I bet some people would still think that if they see me grabbing fast food or something. But you know what? I really feel for them if they feel so self righteous as to analyze every piece of food someone else puts in their mouth. Don't you have something better to do?

Do you really think it helps by calling these people 'cows'?

Laurelin was exactly correct.

To add: What Grammy said and iwantmypup agreed to was extremely offensive. If all you do when you go out is judge other people based on what they are eating then maybe you shouldnt be allowed out in public. Stay home and eat.

The only time I look at what other people are eating is when it looks yummy and then I want to order it. I never think oh joy they shouldnt be eating that because there so fat.

I'm sorry if I've offended anyone . I'm not talking fine dining .... but places like Denny's or Buffet bars .My heart aches for them , I would just love to take their third helping of mashed potatoes and gravy with fried chicken off their plates .

I think it is just pretty sad.

Of course its not "my place" to judge. But I doubt any one has even not judged someone.

And *golfcap* I guess this thread did come to this.
Yes, what I was getting at is I think its DISGUSTING the portions that they serve people because its UNHEALTHY TO BE OBESE.

Laurelin is right. You never know what the person is dealing with.

Ali, you should understand, as I am sure many people look at you and think you have an eating disorder. At least if you are as thin as my friend with CF, and Lord knows she tries and tries to put on weight. Would you want someone to look at you and say you don't eat at all, or that you throw up everything you eat (which is disgusting)? It is the same thing as judging people who are overweight. They don't know you have CF, and you don't know whether that person has thyroid problems or hormone issues, etc.

I don't think it's offensive, I think it's reality.

Put food on my plate, I eat it. I get fat. End of.

Oh for the will power you all obviously have!!

For many people, yes, for others it's not. Not at all. If you've ever dealt with a disease that makes it really hard to lose weight then you'd understand. You could be eating okay, just not well for your body and of course you and everyone else just thinks you're fat and lazy. Even doctors used to think these patients were just fat and lazy when in reality they have a disorder that makes them gain weight, makes them depressed (yay, let's make them feel worse!), makes them physically lack enough energy to do anything about it, etc. No, not all, not even most 'fat' people are these people, but it's out there and I think it needs to be mentioned.

It is the same as seeing a skinny person not eating and assuming them to be anorexic. What if that person had already eaten? You never know. Yeah, I'm sure we've all judged before and no one is infallible but I will call people out on statements that I believe are generalizing too much and I expect others to do the same for me.

Its not a matter of whether people have hastily judged others before. Its not like you said it, felt bad and apologized. You continue to stand by it and call people cows, pigs, disgusting. It has been pointed out many times that most people dont eat these large portions, they take them home. However, if they do - it is none of your business. I dont understand how other people disgust you so much and why you are so concerned over what they eat. Worry about what you eat and leave everyone else alone and you wont be so upset.

I was offended about the watching what obese people are eating comment, too. I am pretty overweight--yet I can hardly eat AT ALL. Impossible, you say? It's not. I've been dealing with some illness that makes it very difficult for me to eat and I vomit 5 times a day or more (since August, 2007)--yet during that time I lost some weight, then went up to a weight higher than I've ever been before, and have now lost 45 pounds since May. I can't explain it completely either. I eat far less than my 135 pound fiance or any of my friends. If you watched me at a restaurant you would probably assume I was dieting or not wanting to pig out in public, and it's just not the case

I completely agree. I must just be too busy with my own life, but I never pay attention to what other people are eating. It seems like too much effort, lol. I'm usually too busy just thinking about what I'm going to eat anyway.

Sooo tonight I had a burger, fries, icecream, and applepie... by the way, I weigh 100lbs... so you definitely can't judge someone solely by the way they eat. Although I eat really healthy most of the time.

Good point Zoe.
But I've already delt with that in school.
People can assume what ever they want of me...
I don't care.People HAVE said I have an eating disorder....I HAVE said I don't. I don't really care at all.. because I know I don't have an eating disorder, and thats all that matters.

And who the hell have I called a cow or a pig? saying... "like" isn't calling them that thing. I do find the portions disgusting..not the people.

Im not complaining about the portions because OTHER people get fat. I am complaining because I think its disgusting that those portions even exisst....I don't want them on my plate.

And of course, somebody is going to come up with a "then don't eat out".
before you do..
Stfu and I can freaking eat whereever the hell I want without having to look at those plates.

Its just sad that this country has some high obesity..and people wonder why.
