What smaller breeds catch your interest? Post pics!

This is for all members who have ever though about bringing a small breed into their life or already have. When I say small, I dont necessarily mean TOY breeds.

Are there any breeds that have caught your interest? A breed that you have never owned before, but catches your eye. A breed that you would like to get to know more about? If so, tell me about it and post pics too if you want!!

For me, large dogs will always be my favorite. But I will also say that I will never live a day of my life WITHOUT a small dog in this house hold. I enjoy them very much.

I've had chihuahuas and I absolutely love them. The perfect companion/lap dog. Another breed that I am interested in is pekignese. I am not into showing, so of course they would not be in their show coat ever. Too much hair. I have met ONE and the dog was a SWEET HEART. Similar to the chihuahua in that aspect, just a little more to love. LOL. I also seen my very first PAPILLON the other day. I will say that pictures do not do them justice, they are breath taking.

The other two small breeds I am interested are not quite lap dogs. They are small, but they are SPUNKY and have drive. Dogs that you can keep up with you in activities you enjoy. Dogs who are sharp, quick learners. Those two breeds are shetland sheepdogs and german pinschers. STUNNING dogs who pack a punch.

Shetland sheepdog. My fave color, of course.

German Pinscher. Black and tan.

I have a lot of learning to do as far as these breeds go. With the research I have already done, I haven't read a thing that I did not like, yet.

That's SO weird you just made this thread.
I was going to come and make a smaller breed thread.

Obviously JRTs, but if you're going for real lap dogs, I think the only one I'd ever own is a papillion. Or a mini-doxie, the long-dog has a special place in my heart.

There really aren't too many toys breeds that I'm actually drawn to... I'd only seek out owning chihuahuas (obviously) and papillons... I like small dogs that have energy and spunk, which chihuahuas have a ton of.

For larger small breeds I like corgis, french bulldogs, boston terriers... I'm sure there are more, but I'm drawing a total blank right now.

Well, compared to big dogs, mine are pretty small.

I think I always want to have a sheltie. They have...unique...personalities to say the least.

I would love to own a yorkie or papillion someday though.

I have a soft spot for miniature bull terriers. Such cute, unique little dogs! And their personalities sound like a riot. If I ever got a small breed, that is what I'd go for.

Boston Terrier is my favorite small dog...unless I could have a small Staffy Bull terrier. I have seen some small females that were around 23lbs

I would love to meat a miniature bull terrier some day. I've only met one bull terrier, but he was not a miniature. The dog was such a CLOWN. Very fun dog.

Well, I'm actually looking to do small dogs for a while.

The two I like the best are Cardigan Corgis and Shelties(but I've decided to go with the corgi). If I was to do a toy breed it would be either a smooth coat brussels griffon or a pap.

Cardigan Welsh Corgi:

finding a smooth coat is proving to be difficult... but here's the rough coat variety

papillon

and you already posted shelties

I don't typically think of shelties as small dogs... I guess they are compared to things like a lab or a collie, but they just don't seem like it to me. Corgis too... maybe it's the "big dog in a small body" mentality of these breeds, LOL.

Papillons are on my list of someday dogs. So is a PWC and a Boston Terrier (the boyfriend wants a Boston and I'm subtly trying to get him to adopt one without making it obvious how much I want one too, LOL.)
I will always always always have at least one sheltie.

I consider PWCs to be a medium breed, not a small breed. They just have little legs :p

As for me, Doc is killing me with her little Lola and Amos. I browse the rescue Brussels Griffon site way too much! I'm also drawn to Bostons.

I like bostons as well, just because they are so goofy. lol.

Mini schnauzer is another I like. The white variety.

Besides Cardigans(which are medium sized with little legs in reality), there's not any other small breed I'd ever own or consider owning, but there definitely are small breeds I think are super cute rather than just cute :)

Minature Longhair Dachshund.. those are just deadly cute.
Longhair Chi's, shelties, Pap's, just super super cute.

I'm another "not a small dog person", but after meeting and being around a friend's Chinese Cresteds for a number of years now, I would love to have a PP. Now, convincing hubby is another thing! LOL

Lots of boston love on the board! Makes me smile! :D

Anyway, besides bostons I'm a big fan of frenchies. Especially the brindle Frenchies.

Aww, look at that face!

I love the staffie bulls too.

Also westies and cardis......better stop now or the list will get huge!

There's quite a few that I really love, but not many that I think would fit with my life well.

Lundehunds - I've been obsessed with them forever! My father travels to Norway and Sweden regularly, and I'm always trying to get him to bring one home for me.

There is a Cavalier breeder who is very active at the training school I go to, and has a dog in my agility class, and although the breed never appealed to me before, I really like their dogs.

My friend has had two chihuahuas from the same breeder who totally changed my opinion on the breed.

I would steal Doc's Lola in a heartbeat, despite my usual dislike for the pushed in face breeds.

When I am old and my lifestyle moves more indoors than out, I want to own an Italian Greyhound.
